so I just spoke to HMRC and was expecting the 4 years previous (£60) but instead got it added to my tax code. So now my tax code is 1334M. Would rather had the £ into my account but hope this works in my benefit.
Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%
Remember when that Bank Manager or Salesperson smiles at you, all he sees is £ notes. Dont forget the motto, "the wider their grin, the more debt your in"
  • You will probably benefit very slightly as most people owe a small amount of tax each year which is ignored by HMRC until something like this happens and then they take it into account so any refund would be reduced slightly (£1-2 a year)

Slight downside is that you have to wait until final payday of this tax year to get the full benefit.
  • I’ve just done this online. Managed to claim for past 5 years uniform allowance and professional subscriptions. Received cheque for overpayment and this years tax code changed. Well worth the 20 mins it took
  • Hi - if you are self-employed and paying tax can you still do this? I have everything for the online claim except a PAYE reference as I am self-employed for the company I work for. Can I still do it?
  • Just received a cheque for £141. Applied about two weeks ago on GOV website, took about 10 mins. I claimed back 4 years plus 2018-19, but on the cheque it states Tax Calculation for 2017-18? Does this mean I have other cheques on the way for the other years I’ve applied for, or is this the whole rebate for the five years?
  • That is quite a decent amount for a uniform claim.

Does the final calculation (P800?) not include an amount owed from earlier years i.e. the £141 is the total for the four years to 05:04:2018?

    It might be something like
    2014:15 overpaid £35, total £35
    2015:16 overpaid £35, total £70
    2016:17 overpaid £35, total £105
    2017:18 overpaid £35, total £140

With a bit more (for 2018:19) to come through your next wages (assuming you have also received a new tax code)
  • Thanks for the reply. It states on the letter attached to the cheque that a calculation of this amount has been sent separately. Was just confused as to why it only states 2017-18.
  • Probably just cause that is the final year they are paying you direct - all the 4 years being rolled together ending up with £141.

Should still have a little bonus to come in your March payslip (approx £35 based on £141 being for 4 years).

I have just tried this on-line and found that there is no way to avoid getting a phone call from HMRC - The first step after logging on is putting your address and phone number in to the system - the second step is "WHAT TIME DO YOU WANT US TO PHONE YOU TODAY ?"
Hardly "disabled friendly" is it ?
I, am unable to speak on the phone due to a disability - yet there appears to be no options !!
