Wash your uniform at home ?

I'm helping my father complete his tax return. The company he worked for was taken over by another company half way through the last tax year, so his tax return shows two employments.
Both required uniform and he washes this himself.
Should he split the £60 fixed in half between the two companies, or does it not matter ? - I assume it is £60 fixed per individual so wouldn't matter how it is split ?
Thanks in advance0 -
actually technically it is per employment so as he had 2 employments, and I assume 2 different uniforms, he could legitimately claim 120
Even though he was never employed at both at the same time?
Also, as each one is only 6 months of the tax year does that mean half would be claimed, or is the full allowance still allowed ?0 -
HMRC have information about this here

Success
After filling out the online forms going back 4-5 tax years ( I think ) I got a cheque for £40.56p
I was expecting a lot more with it being a allowance of £60 per year, they sent me a working out for each tax year. but I can't understand it.
hey £40 better in my pocket. + £60 less tax to pay every year.Jane x0 -
+ £60 less tax to pay every year.
You have misunderstood how this works.
It is £12 less tax to pay every year. The £60 allowance reduces the amount of income you have to pay tax on so £60 less income is, for most £12 less tax (£60 x 20%).
It could be as much as £27 less tax but only for very high earners.0 -

True, and you were clever enough to do it yourself and not use a tax refund company who could easily have taken a hefty cut of the refund0

I wear a uniform and boots for deliveries. I claimed for as for back as I could via hmrc website. Followed it and now have a cheque for £41. Happy with that.
