  • Thank you for pointing me to the paragraph before the occupational list in the HMRC website. Really that's all you needed to say. I read the guide which does not mention that paragraph specifically. People do miss bits occasionally, how terrible of them but we are not all as perfect as you. Thanks for your reply. Have a good day.
  • I got a backdated tax rebate for washing my own uniform as well as for having to pay for professional registration and subscription fees. Very happy :-)

clearly therefore you did something wrong. Unless you provide the details on here so people can advise you on your circumstances you will have to live with it.

I will bet that out of the "£400" they say they got a lot of it will be taken by the union as a fee for doing the work!
getting someone else to submit a claim is the last thing anyone on here will ever advise you to do since the claim is very simple and cannot possibly justify someone else taking a fee for writing the letter.

I completed all forms on the gov website via the p87 forms for each year, the rebate price went upto £80 per year for my trade ,working for a company since april 2011 as a roofer,my work clothes have the company logo. After 9 days i received 3 letters .1 cheque for £14.21 and the other letters only stated that 1 year i pay too much tax so £14.21 rebate and it said previous years i had paid the right amount in tax, cant understand how my tax is right for all these years but other people who started the same time as me have been rebated full payments for washing their work clothes.
Does this sound right or should i do it another way
    Thanks

The allowance may have been given in your code number for the previous years.

You may have slightly underpaid tax for the previous years and so the rebate is cancelled out.

Only HMRC can tell you why.
  • And you do realise you don't get £80, its just tax relief on the £80 which depending on your personal circumstances could be anywhere between £0 and £36.

Sherambers explanation is almost certainly correct

My tax codes from previous years are as follows
    Years ending 2012 =747l. 2013 =810l. 2014 =944l. 2015 1012l. 2016 1060l
2017 1100l. Letter now states its replaced now by 1108l the £14.21 was for year ending 2016 so if code has only been changed now, does this mean i must of payed too little it tax then
    Thanks all for the advice

standard tax code by year and tax free amount £ it equates to
    11/12: 747 (£7,470) - you had that
    12/13: 810 (£8,100) - you had that
    13/14: 944 (£9,440) - you had that
    14/15: 1000 (£10,000) - you had 1012 = £10,120 so an extra £120
15/16: 1060 (£10,600) - you had that and have been given £14.21 refund for this and previous years
16/17: 1108 (£11,080) - you have been given the £80 allowance you are entitled for for this year

so it appears that your tax codes was not right "for all these years" and that in 14/15 you did not pay enough tax since you had £120 more tax free than "normal" (120 x 20% = £24 underpaid)

The answer to why you have only now been given £14.21 lies in the details you have not provided of your historic under or over payments - only HMRC can list those since they are the ones who have the records
