I have been working at Tesco for 5 years and I always wash my uniform (which bears the Tesco logo) at home. Is there a good chance I will be able to claim any money from the tax office?
What is the process for making a claim? Who should I write to? What should I say?
Many thanks.0 -

Just wondering how much money I can claim for washing my clothes per year...?I wish to claim 5 years back:)

Brilliant.
I read this article about 3 weeks ago. I'm a maintenance electrician at a factory.
I simply phoned the main tax office one night after work, took approx 10mins.
Was informed my code would be changed and my local tax office would look at a rebate.
I got my payslip today and my code has changed from 747L to 759L and today I received £128 rebate off the tax office.
Great Thanks MMST'S

You're likely to get in the region of £60 or £80 in relief. Which translates (at 20% tax rate) to £12 / £16pa.
Just write to HMRC with your NINO and Employer ref (off your P60) and indicate you wish to claim for laundering overalls (?).If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
This is really worth doing. I wrote to the tax office about 2 weeks ago to claim a rebate for work uniform washing and was hoping optimistically for about £60 to £70. However, it seems that while sorting that, the tax man realised I had overpaid in all these years as well. The P800 forms were quite complicated and seemed to say I had overpaid by £877. I thought this was a paper exercise only, until I opened another envelope which had the cheque for £877 in it. So you never know! It's the first positive news we have had in about 3 years, as we struggle to pay credit card debts.0

Apologies if this has been already covered.
My uncle died last year. Can my aunt claim back for the washing, even though her husband is now deceased?0 -
I wrote to my tax office about two weeks ago and today recieved a letter back saying...
"According to my records PCSOs - police civilian staff are offered cleaning vouchers and if you choose not to have them that is your choice. "
I think that HRMC is looking for excuses not to pay out, I will be sending a letter straight back on Monday informing her that her records need to be amended as In 7 years i have NEVER been offered any vouchers, nor is the Union rep or personnel dept aware of these!
besides what would the vouchers be for? free washing powder?
good luck all and thanks again opLearn from Yesterday
