Washing machine, is it returnable????

Hello,

I have had a new washing machine delivered this afternoon at a cost of £169.99, it is a BEKO WM5101W.

After it had been installed I used it to do some laundry, it was only then that I realised that it takes over 2 hours to do 1 wash:eek:, also doesn't rinse clothes properly.

I went to check T&Cs on company website regarding returns but it states that for a return, the item must be in "new and unused condition, and not installed".

I was thinking of ringing them in the morning and asking if I am able to return this machine and pay extra £70 for a much better one.

Am I correct in thinking that I should be able to return it as 2 hours is ridiculous and rinse did not work properly?

TIA

Could I suggest you read the book ! According to the spec it has 16 programmes, the shortest of which is 30 mins.
My Bosch will take 2 hrs if I select a 2hr programme.

Also check it's been installed correctly. But yes, my Beko does some washes that take almost three hours; others that take 30 minutes.

I've found the biggest thing affecting the time is the temperature of the wash. Also, how do you know it's not rinsing clothes?

The 30 minute programme is for "A small amount of lightly soiled cotton garments", as i have 3 children i do not think this programme will likely get used!

I read the book prior to using the machine but it had been installed prior to this.

ETA: I did a wash and it took 3 seperate rinse cycles to get the detergent
    out
  • I don;t think you would be able to return it as it has been used. I think they will say that you should have asked/researched how long the cycles lasted before buying.

Also, are you using too much detergent? I have never found that I need the full amount that they say on the packet.

I think you will find that ALL new washing machines take on average 2 hours to complete a full wash cycle these days
also check you machine doesn't have an eco button - my Haier one does, if you don't press it until it reads FULL it automatically goes to 1/2 full - which means the clothes are not rinsed properly - I believe it is all to do with water saving measures
both my friend and I have had new machines in the past eyar- I bought a cheap Haier one ( fed up of machines only lasting 3 years, no matter how much you pay for them!)
my friend bought an expensive Zanussi and both of them take 2 hours 45 mins on a full cycle

I now use the economy cycle which takes 38 -45 mins ( depending on which temperature I wash at)
and with a squir of vanich on any heavily soiled articles, I find that the economy wash is perfectly fine.

Order from a physical shop who delivered? In which case there nothing you can do.

If your order from on-line or via phone the dsr do allow for the customer to inspect the product. So you may be able to return it under those grounds.

Depending on the cycle most washing machines will take 2 hours or more on a full load. Also have you tried using less detergent.

Machines take longer nowadays, the majority of machines will take the bulk of the water in cold and heat it themselves (the best are cold fill only, even those with hot & cold fill only take a nominal amount of hot in). Witht the water saving measures you may need to tell the machine to do a full rinse, and has been pointed out you will be using too much detergent.

Though with 3 kids to wash for, don't despair too much, you may find you will be chosing another model sooner than you think, after the obligatory repairs :(
  • Thanks for all the replies.
Contacted suppliers this AM only to be told that I am not classed as the customer, only the recipient, and I have to get the person who has the invoice to deal with this:mad: (Forgot to say this was a gift:o).
Although they were more than happy to send someone out next week to see if it is a fault, if no fault found then a £50 call out fee applies:eek:. Delivery guy even said it won't last much past 2 years!!!!

It was ordered by phone, not instore, does this make a difference?

Now have to wait till Monday:mad:

    Thanks again.

That's a pretty big ommission on your part. As you're not the consumer then you effectively have no consumer rights and certainly no right of return, DSRs or otherwise.
