  • yes. My balance is much lower and I wouldn't like the 1200 added on. Do I just carry on as if nothing has changed? but what happens when I confirm receipt of my card?

The £1200 won't get added on - it's just a pseudo-random amount they use to illustrate to you the cost of the borrowing.

You balance will remain as is - obviously changing as it accrues interest/charges or you make payments off the balance.

  • I had a card with a 5k balance on it with a 15.9% APR and transferred it to CITI or SH****Y as I now call them anyway which was on a 0% for the life of the balance - I went on holiday shortly after and came home to a letter stating that I missed the 1st payment which was strange as the DD form was completed at the same time and when I called CITI about this they informed me that the form hadn't reached the bank in time and I should have made the 1st payment manually - I was never told this.
To add insult to injury they also told me that the interest rate had now been re set to their standard rate (19.9%) but the DD was in place and payments will be made automatically - without missing any payments the next letter I received was to inform me that the interest has changed from 19% to 21.9% and finally, I received a letter to say that my account will be transferred to opus - but wait for it .........I've just received the card and clause 3.3 the interest rate is now 41.1% on balance transfers - so by switching, my interest has gone from 15.9% to 41.1%
the card has a different account number so i'm wondering what the position is here as I haven't signed any agreement for this new account and will be taking legal advice as to weather this is enforceable or do I have the right to refuse it.
  • We have been transfered to opus aswell, it appears. We havent had any communication from citicards appart from statements, but 2 opus cards have turned up, but the citicard account was my husbands with me as an additional card holder and the opus cards are in my name with an additional card for him, are they allowed to do this? We were planning on paying off and closing the account this month but it doesnt look as if it'll be straight forward.

It's quite normal for the first payment to still be made manually because of the delay in setting up the direct debit. This is normally stated on the first statement. Did you first statement say that the payment would be collected by direct debit? If not, then it was your responsibility to make the payment manually.

I have had my CITI card for years and on 2 occasions i have missed a payment because i did not receive a paper statement ,both times my August statement failed to appear so they started to charge me the full rate on my balance. To avoid paying the interest used some savings to zero the balance.Glad i did Opus card dropped through the letter box yesterday at the new rate of 45.5%.Guess where the card is now.
  • I just got my new Opus card today. Didnt even KNOW they were taking over Citi....

The thing that puzzles me is that my Citi card was a VISA. My new Opus card is MASTERCARD.....it doesnt make any sense?

Can anyone help me out here?

Received my Opus card a few days ago. Duly cut up in 4 pieces and returned to them advising I do not do business with a sub prime lender and account to be closed. I never used it when it was under the former owners.

A note of interest the interest rate was 35 percent.
  • Another point to note is that if the DD amount doesn't increase then I don't think the minimum payment will even cover the interest - never mind taking anything off the balance. - as far as the 1st statement was concerned on my account - i did take it on the chin that the 1st payment should have been made manually but i was away when the 1st statement came and missed the deadline but we've gone from this to 41.1% APR!!!! so off to the bank on Monday
  • I got a couple of Opus credit cards this morning, one for me and t'other for my wife, right out of the blue. I didn't really want a new card, and when I saw the interest rate on offer I wanted it even less. Now I discover (from this thread) that it's a replacement for the citicard, which was itself a replacement for the old shell card. Being a bit concerned that I was going to be charged an horrendous rate of interest on transfer I tried to phone the company on the number given above (thanks to whoever posted that!). No reply of course, well, it is Saturday night and who wants to work then! But I did notice a little strap line at the top of the letter I got with the previous citicard - quote, 'citi never sleeps'. Perhaps not, though it doesn't mean that they actually get up to go to work, does it.
