MSE News: Tesco cuts rewards in Clubcard overhaul

Oh well it was good while it lasted. I shop at Tescos as it's the only large supermarket close to me. The other alternative would be a 24 mile round trip. The tokens have done me well.
No grumbles from us about the past working of the scheme, either. But Tesco's letter to us about the *true* reason for the ClubCard Deals devaluation really is a simpering insult to our intelligence:
"Double points means we send out more vouchers, so customers have more value to spend with our rewards partners. To help both Tesco and our partners manage this increase (after all, there are only so many seats in a restaurant, or rooms in a hotel) we will be making changes to our rewards rates."
Aw. How sad.
Tesco customers think hotels and restaurants are constructed from rubber and capable of infinite expansion. They don't realise there are "only so many seats" or so many hotel rooms. Poor Tesco has therefore been left with no choice but to help its precious partners -- as distinct from its moronic customers -- by changing the Clubcard scheme so as to damp down demand.
(Of course, the stressed-out restaurant and hotel chains Tesco is so worried about could simply drop out of the ClubCard Deals programme and enjoy the tranquillity of lots of empty tables and lots of vacant rooms. . .)
Oh dear, Tesco. Oh dear. Store prices increasing, value decreasing, the ClubCard Deals programme having to be revised because thoughtless customers are paralysing the UK's hotel and restaurant industry. . .
No wonder that we've decided -- after we've received our November points and converted them and all our existing stock into a holiday -- it'll be best not to inconvenience Tesco or its distinguished "partners" any further.
Let's face it. There are only so many seats on an aircraft. Only so many places on a car ferry. And only so much lying bullsh*t a consumer is prepared to take from any company -- Tesco included.0 -
Half the points (if any) from direct wont go on till after this quarter as Tesco aint good at admin and giving points promised; therefore, they will only be worth x3 in Jan -humSIMPLES!0

Is Morrisons scheme only for petrol? Never heard of it, but my local store doen't do petrol.0

Tell me if I have this wrong please.
Old system spend £100 get £1 voucher exchange for (about) £4 in rewards
Now double points
New system spend £50 get £1 voucher exchange for (about) £3 in rewards
so spend £100 get £2 voucher exchange for (about) £6 in rewards
Am I wrong in thinking that I have gained a bit or what?
However I have not been collecting my vouchers for something special, so I probably won't feel the effects of the change as much as some will.0 -

No, you do have it right...
That is why so many posters say we had it good for while (ie getting both - 4x the value and double points) and something had to give, but others are moaning because they want more:D0 -
I always use my points for renewing RAC breakdown recovery. This is due to expire at the end of the year. Will I be able to renew in advance with the 4x points, or only get 3x ??
Also, does anyone know how long the hotels and meal vouchers last for? The only restaurant I can use is Pizza Express tho.
Thanks0 -
Not sure... do they have prices out for next year yet? I would have thought so.. Also you can order the vouchers close to the end of 4x exchange, which is 5th December and before the vouchers come (if it comes in vouchers?) it would be nearly the time to renew anyway...I always use my points for renewing RAC breakdown recovery. I would give them a call. Also, does anyone know how long the hotels and meal vouchers last for? The only restaurant I can use is Pizza Express tho.

Restaurants definitely last 6 mths. It doesn't matter which vouchers you order- Pizza Express, Cafe Rouge, Prezzo etc all use the same vouchers. So just order Pizza Express and if you find yourself somewhere out on the trip you can try different place.0 -
8 Novemebr to 5 December. Includes furniture, toys, clothing, wine, baby, electricals, phones, computers. But for those with vouchers miffed about the change to 3X, you may want to keep some for Xmas shopping?0

As a Clubcard Plus customer, I can confirm that each £ spent will attract 3 points. I asked that the changes discussed with HO via cs phone be sent to me in a letter.
It came yesterday.
It is true - Mr T prices are rocketing, even on basics.
re: petrol prices. It is cheaper to fill up about 20 miles away, where Mr T must match or better Asda's price. I asked and was told this is the pricing criteria - checked every 2 hours against any petrol competitor within 4 miles.
You are fortunate if your near towns have a Mr T with petrol and another fuel supermarket. Unfortunately, this is not the case for me.
My other concern is when the Novemeber mailing will arrive - the last 2 have arrived too late for some offers to be used. This time, it may mean redemption is not possible before the down-rating.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Their server neeed an overhaul too last night. Succeeded with one transaction at 7pm when I proceeded with other transactions at 8pm the website would not let me proceed to the checkout!!! (very unusual for Tesco!!!!!). I am very annoyed as my vouchers are worth LESS. I could not contact customer services as they are CLOSED SUNDAYS. I even tried using the site at 11 15pm to see if less people were on it but to no avail.0
