Well done on getting DD's preschool place. We don't seem to have preschool in Wales but DD will qualify for the 15 hours at her current private nursery from January-July which will reduce our childcare costs significantly.
Came on to let you know I got my GTM cheque today £30.08. I requested it April 12th. Have you had yours?June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Yay, about the global test market cheque received today -30.84 (must be the exchange rate).
I could have had my free hours at a private nursery, childminder or pre school (have decided on pre school as I'm hoping it will make it easier to get her into the primary school on the same site).
Very hard to get childcare around here, private nurseries very full, my first choice pre school full, so going on the 'posh' estate as most are going to prep school/fee paying private schools and therefore the state school has places.OPs so far £42,139

Auntie Mabel - so very true about keeping up with the Jones' and the credit card culture. My friend used to work in the bank dealing with business accounts and very high overdrafts and credit cards amongst the 'posh' set.
Iris - paying interest on your hair?:rotfl: Loving it. I'm not that girlie anymore but should make more of an effort.
In other news got a text from my mum saying they had bought another house. My parents went to an auction at York race course last night and have only gone and bought a bungalow without even seeing it:eek::eek::eek:OPs so far £42,139

That was brave! Do they intend to live in it?
Glad you got your cheque too, it spurs you on to do more surveys doesn't it.
Round here i think we just have playgroups rather than preschool. I'm just hoping DD will be ok when she starts school nursery as none of her nursery friends live locally but she does adapt well so I'm sure she'll settle and make friends. Luckily although I live in a big town my local schools are not over subscribed (i think the town centre ones may be) so hopefully we will get the place we want.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -

I discovered something the other day which shocked me. A friend of mine (who is a well paid professional) had to go back to work to pay off her credit card bill. For some years they had been spending away on it whilst she was a SAHM and only making the minimum payments , then things got out of hand and the minimum payments were several hundred pounds a month!! The worst/best (whichever way you look at it) of it was that she told me all this as if it was completely normal, then when she asked me how much I have on a credit card and I told her that I clear the balance every month, she clearly thought I was bonkers
I think we live in such a 'commodity culture' that people get sucked into it and struggle to be satisfied unless they're buying more and more stuff

Expensive afternoon
Went into Leeds treated us to a pizza hut, had vouchers, but DD1 was sick everywhere (very embarrassing and poor little thing). Her dad has had sickness so think that she's now got it, he's been having toilet issues so no doubt will put potty training back.
OH treated himself to more PS3 games, not impressed.
Got both girls new socks, and DD2 her first cruising shoes from Clarks. Unfortunately she's a very narrow fit so there was only one pair in the entire shop that fitted.
Spent 60 in total so not horrendous but wouldn't want to do that every weekend.
Grocery bills are spiralling at the moment, we do like all the out of season fresh fruit and veg. I like honey roasted salmon flakes, king prawns and they are always really expensive as wellOPs so far £42,139

Had a great day, my mum and sis came round to spend the afternoon with us. Haven't seen my sis since march so was good to catch up.
Mum gave me 100 quid to help; pay for our July hols, bless. My sis got 100 to pay towards her graduation costs. Very lucky:j:j:j
Also got an extra payment from tax credits for 160, so every little helps.
Very pleased that the house on our road, has been sold, been on for about 8 weeks for 40K more than we paid for ours in 2007. It's not directly comparable as the plot is so much better, it's also slightly bigger (but the best comparison we have for when we remortgage next year)OPs so far £42,139
