    Are your jimmies rustled?

Whats the problem? you or someone you knew were a bit stupid and actually gave away £300 for these mattresses?

£100 isn't much ... whether I got the mattress and realised it was worth nothing and was a load of rubbish I would have tossed it out and learnt from my mistake

Learnt from your mistakes! How about not making the mistake in the first place.do I really want to buy a mattress on my doorstep that turns out to be a new casing with an old mattress inside. Yuk.
I find it perplexing that people aren't bright enough to figure that they're not getting a high quality knock- off but a low quality rip off. It serves them right.

Just stumbled across this thread very entertaining and very worrying, buying a fake mattress could be the death of you.

Leave something hot or smouldering (cigarette, hair curlers etc) or a dodgy/sparking electrical appliance (alarm clock etc) on a genuine mattress, the fire retardant materials are tested and proven to extinguish themselves.

That means that the fire will go out on its own.

Now put something like that on a slab of cotton wool or whatever these scumbags are using. The fire will likely catch and if not caught can take the house down with it.

If you want a bargain many bed shops will offer reductions on very expensive floor models, most people are put off, but if you sling a mattress protector on it, you never have to touch the actual surface of the bed.
(You can often get a bit of a bargain on these as well.)

Please don't buy dodgy mattresses and don't support these crooks.
It can be hard to stump up the money for a mattress, but a good one will last you and save you money in the long run.

Not forgetting that the UK has been flooded with cheap foam mattresses from China that sometimes contain dangerous chemicals. As trading standards are well aware of, these are often the mattresses that are sold by these scammers.

Who said I was getting a high quality mattress?

    Read next time,

And I opened up the mattress today, no cheap mattress inside, what was cheap was the memory foam in there which no way is worth £800 or even 150... most likely the double mattress is worth around £70, but if people are not bright enough and pay £200-300 then that is the scam

I took pictures of what was inside the mattress but don't think I will be able to link them or upload them

    Watch

Fake Britain Special Furniture Inferno BBC Documentary 2014

and you will also see that is what in these stores, DFS, Harvey, Argos, Amazon are not that great

And once again, I am not telling anyone to go buy these mattresses as they are obviously going to be a poor product

When I did get mine, I wasn't thinking "WOW, a BARGAIN, 800 mattress for just 100"

At the time though I need mattress and I got one, £100 isn't much, would I do it again.. no.

    -

There are obviously different scams going on, used mattress covered up/cheap material and I got hit by the cheap material

I haven't seen the show, so i'm not exactly sure what point you are trying to make.

But, my point stands, if you buy a fake mattress that is totally unregulated, then you have no idea what you are getting yourself into. Or the harm that could befall you.

The BBC I assume, tested some mattresses and found them unsafe?
That would be unfortunate, but if you did buy one of these mattresses you would have been informed and had your money back / a new free mattress.

Personally, if you walk into a 'dodgy deal' well aware of the risks and you are not putting others in harms way, then frankly that is completely up to you.

It's your money and your neck, you may have many years of peaceful sleep and then you have done well, but it is about informing people about the risks.

I remember walking to school one day and a car pulled over with the guy in the passenger seat asking if I wanted to buy a laptop. I said no thanks and they drove off. Told my friends at school and they said I should have asked them how much!? Yes, 50p, my lunch and some fruit pastels for a laptop.

Did you miss my post, or just choose to ignore it?

I'll repeat it again for you:

We have all been told in the past on these forums to stay well away from big brand names when buying mattresses, for various reasons, by people who know far more than you and me. But nobody has suggested that you should buy from them. However, there are a couple of reasons to not buy from these scammers, the first of which I mentioned in my previous post. But also the fact that the mattress could possibly give terrible support, which could lead to back or joint problems. Not to mention the fact that you could possibly be funding organised crime (as many scams do).

    :rotfl:Probably!

I've not come across mattress sales but have come across "fresh" fish and shell fish sales from the back of a white van.

Some vans get hired out on a cash basis, so there is no record of who hired it out, and the van is used for potentially dodgy sales purposes, but if you note and give the police the van registration, by the time it's investigated the person who rented the van has long gone.
  • Why risk any of the problems noted by other posts above when there are so many cheap deals on the web from genuine people who offer guarantees / refunds etc such as whatmattress.co.uk , mattressnextday.co.uk and john lewis

Does anybody recommend any other sites or retailers?
