selling something out of a van the last time i checked was not a scam. they may be selling something that is not a good quality but its not a scam, if selling low quality goods was a scam then we would not have stores like Poundland, 99p store etc. as they would all be closed down for selling low quality goods.

yes you could report the domain to Nominet at nominet@nominet.org.uk or direct too rachel.eales@nominet.org.uk

Scam = a dishonest scheme/act.

Fail to see how its not a scam unless they're being 100% honest about the goods, their origin, their condition and their actual worth.

Quite a few of their practices are actually banned by law.

When you try to imply that a mattress that isn't worth £100 is worth over £800, then that is a scam.

When you sell cheap imports from China, that don't even comply with European standards, but you imply that you do, then that is a scam.

When you tell people that the reason you have the mattresses on the van is because a shop over ordered. And that is the only reason why you are selling them so cheap, then that is a scam.

When you set up a website to give the impression that the company is legitimate, and the RRP's are genuine (when they aren't), then that is a scam.

Trading Standards all over the country are trying to track these people down, because they are operating a scam.

I guess most double glazing companies should be banned then? ;)

("Today there is 50% off, plus 20% off sale, plus 10% off manager's discount. And if you pay via our gold account there's another 10% off". By the way the price is no different to other companies who just give you a price without all this bull. Yes Anglian - it is YOU I'm talking about).
• A few months back a bloke in a van said to me, do you know anyone that wants a bed.
I said I want a new bed, and he said I have one you can have.
So I said thats very kind of you giving me a bed.
He looked surprised and said it is not free and then just drove off :)

• As I write this now there's one of these outside the house. He asked me and I declined, so if anybody on here is in Liverpool be aware of a van with a couple of blokes in it asking if you want a mattress. The van had eeezy beds on the side
• i remember when the blokes in a flash car used to stop you and ask you if you wanted to buy a really expensive watch for the knockdown price of 20 quid!
couple of mates did it the fools and got palmed off with something that even lizzie duke couldnt sell for a fiver..

Oh wow so weird. Just came across this thread as I don't come on this site often and it's reminded me that a similar thing happened to me a few weeks ago.

Some fella came to my door and said his shop was closing and he was getting rid of some memory foam mattresses. The good quality ones he said. He beckoned me to his fan and started to wander towards it as if he expected me to follow him.

I just said, 'I don't want a mattress' and shut the door.

I live in Hull too as I see some of the other posters who had experienced this do too. Although this thread is a few years old. Was I the potential victim of a scam?! He did give me a leaflet which I might still have somewhere.

The company is probably in the hands of the liquidators (who effectively own the company) and the liquidators should be made aware of this. If the former owners of the company are selling stock that is not declared to the liquidators I think it could be classed as stolen goods.

That's probably not the case at all. It is a very common scam where they sell cheap, low quality, imported mattresses that often don't comply with EU safety standards. They use the story that they are bankrupt stock, or surplus stock in order to try and sound legitimate. They probably bought the mattresses for between £50 and £80 each, and are trying to con people into thinking that they are high quality mattresses.

Food for thought on cheap memory foam products.

• Just seen this in action today and remembered this thread. I was walking down the street near where I live and a white van pulled up and asked a lady stood in her drive way if she knew anyone who wanted a mattress.

She said no and I imagine they went on their way.

I would never feel comfortable buying something in this way, but someone must do or they wouldn't bother trying it.
