Mardatha you are so kind to me!

Please let me know if this date is definite as I can book the ticket for the Caledonian sleeper leaving Friday night and then travel back in the day on Sunday after mid-day, when the prices are less expensive. I shall need to book myself in a hostel for the Saturday, which do you suggest? Thanks.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

i'll have to see about coming up to Edinburgh, gutted i'm not going to dublin, bladdy peeps double booking me. all that lovely guiness just waiting for me :(.

Yeah em i'll have a look for hostels and maybe we could stay in the same one. I think i found one that was quite close to the central train station. I was planning on taking the boys there, its seemed quite reasonable. Just need to find the name of it now.

Just let me know the date and i'll see what i can do.

http://www.syha.org.uk/hostels/central/edinburgh_central/travel.aspx is quite central on Leith Walk.

And this one is also really central, located at the end of Princes Street opposite the Caledonian Hotel

I've not personally stayed in either of them but have heard good reviews from others :)

Thanks La-Cara, will have a look at those two. I am trying to get DH to come along with me (is anyone else dragging a husband/wife along?) and if he says yes it will be a B&B for me and him, otherwise it will be nice to go to a central hostel. Will let you know as soon as I hear from him.

  • try hostelworld, my OH uses it when he's going away for work, and has gotten some nice accomodation out of it.

Ooh this looks like a big meetup!!!

  • Caterina you might get dirt cheap flights from ryanair, don't know if that would be any better for you?

Thanks Jackie but I don't fly, part scared and part environmental - but more scared than environmental to be honest!. I would obsess all the time about the return flight and it would ruin my break. I only fly for reasons of life or death, I even go to Italy by train!

  • I can sympathise, I have a great friend who is terrified of flying. As for the environmental part, that's something I have always struggled with but I figure the plane is in the air anyway whether I am on it or not. :o
