i did look for storage heaters last year but didn't really know where to get them from, in the end we got an electric fire and surround for the living room which we can take with us when we eventually leave here. It seems at the moment the phrase 'when we leave here' is ruling my decisions and it's not gonna happen for quite some time.
  • I've contacted a local electrician for a "supply & fit" quote - the 1.7kw size which is what we'd be looking for I think comes in at just at £278 which seems pretty reasonable to me. I know the bigger ones are quite a bit more expensive though.

  • Quick one - it's been madly busy on here today! I had to go miles back to find this!

Must do a list for tomorrow.
Must get round to repairing the trousers that need doing
And catching up the hem on a second pair.
Can also take the third pair to the tailors to get the length taken up as they are no good to man nor beast at the moment.
Avon books to collect - can be done at the same time as the tailors.
    Avon books to redistribute.

Price up windscreen wipers in Halfords to see how much a drivers side one for my car is prior to service/MoT on Thursday. I suspect it will work out cheaper for me to buy and fit one than pay main dealer prices.
    Washing from machine to airer.
Next load of washing to machine.
    Washing up.

More to come tomorrow no doubt! One thing for sure Thursday will be largely an indoors day as the weather is forecast to be carp and the car is being serviced / MoT'd. Thankfully they know me pretty well at the dealers now so will come and collect & return it for me! :D

Basic convection heaters are expensive to run so would monitor usage. The storage heater we needed would have been over £400 for 1, and there are another 3 to fit after that too, plus if we want the ones that you can also turn on as a boost when you need we would have had to had the electrics redone as ours are old. We took the big old one off on Sunday and carried it in bits outside ready to take to the tip and yesterday a scrappy came by and took it away for us :j. I think over the next month or so we are going to take them all out and go with these delonghi ones, we arent selling so lack of permanent heaters isnt a problem and most people would put in central heating now anyway.

Good luck with the lists, they really seem to be working for you.

We have 70% chance of snow on Thursday and 92% chance at the weekend :T

Transfer car tax money from Car expenses account to joint account. Will put off doing this until I need to as well.

The two lots of repairs needed to trousers took a total of about 20 minutes, which makes me think it would have been far easier to have got on and done them when they first needed doing, rather than whinging and prevaricating about it! :o

Got the cheque back from the Sharesave scheme I was a member of with the company - unfortunately £50 short as for some reason the company decided to take a deduction from my final pay in spite of having already confirmed to the Sharesave people that I had left. I will give it a couple of weeks to see whether it trips back to me from either them, or the Sharesave people, after which I'll need to give it a chase. Spent a little time on Sunday afternoon doing a whizzy little chart to see how we're going with the progress of stashing money aside for next year's Hebrides trip. The amount we have worked out that we need is scary - hadn't *really* realised how much it all costs, but the fact is that it's the holiday we want and neither of us can imagine not spending our precious two weeks over there so it's a case of working out the best way to achieve it rather than worrying about not managing too. Good news is that we are a surprising amount of the way on already - thanks in part to the company paying me about twice as much untaken holiday as I thought I was due. The Sharesave money will be heading there as well, after which we will have enough stashed for all the essential bits (ferries, cottage rental, food, beer! :p) and will be onto saving for spending money. :j

When I checked Quidco yesterday evening I spotted that £40 from More Th>n for the cat insurance has finally been received by them so that guarantees I'll get a payment at the end of the month - a little bit more for the Hebrides trip fund! :T OH is now a member of TopCashBack too so fingers crossed he can earn a bit of cash that way too. I think Quidco is the one I need to get him onto though as at the moment there is more "standard" daily cash available there.

We've pretty much decided that we're going to go for the storage heater. We know the Dimplex ones are good, and it worries me that there is always the risk of forgetting to turn a convector heater off and then ending up with it running all day which *would* be expensive.

Right, off to do some STUFF! :D

All in all, not a bad onslaught on that list I reckon. I feel quite smug. Must get my head around sorting out what I need to achieve on Thursday. Must also do the wretched meal plan which is still eluding me - can't get my head around it for some reason. Oh well, last night was liver & bacon, and tonight will be the leftover brisket from sunday in a tomato sauce with spaghetti & garlic bread. Need a quick option for tomorrow night as I'm heading to Boots after work for the second christmas evening - I have a voucher for an extra 500 points if I spend the £50 to qualify for the extra 1200 already on offer, and several christmas presents on my list to buy if possible.

You could get one of those timer plugs and connect it to the heater, so that you could set when it would come on and go off, then you wouldn't be risking that problem

We have done that before - in fact we use the oil filled rad in just that way to warm the bathroom up first thing when the weather turns really cold (not sure what I think it is at the moment - it was -2C out there this morning!) so you're right, that would be a way of working it.
