Train actually goes from Blanes (next resort down the coast) but there is a bus service from Lloret to Blanes station to tie in with the trains. Service is very good and fairly cheap.

You can take the train directly into central Barcelona - Placa de Catalunya(sp) - where you can catch one of the tourist buses or do whatever you want to do to in the city. It is at the top of the Ramblas and very central.

The bus station is in the centre of Lloret and you can buy an all in one ticket which includes the bus to Blanes and train to Barcelona - we did this 2 years ago. The train route is costal, passing through deserted tourist resorts.
We found in the hotel lobby where we stayed a list of market days at local villages - again you can get the bus to these.
You may want to take to cable car in Barcelona which i think runs from the port to Gaudi's Gardens which is a must see.

Hi, thanks mucho for the replies (at work so the thanks button is defunct)We are staying in the Casino Royal Hotel, which I'm lead to believe is dire! but I am treating this openly, the reports I have read are midsummer so it can be totally different out of season. Its a base/a bed and if thats all we get from it, we will cope. I was told last night the sewers run through the street! But I shall find out soon enough. So the beach is shingle, not a problem as we went to Turkey so already have the rubber shoes we needed then, I'll be happy whatever tbh.

Thanks, I won't worry, a holiday is what you make it. Was in the Caribbean a few years ago with glorious weather in a 5* Hotel (A.O.A at its best) good company and overheard a fool complaining about the transfer times.

If you are keen to stay over in Barcelona - which I can recommend - why not have a look at possible costs, type of accommodation available on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Love this website for hotel booking as you can search on areas, hotel categories, cost, etc. Also you get reviews of others who have stayed there. Best of all - unlike some other booking sites - you don't have to pay up in advance. You give your credit card details to hold the room but you don't actually pay until you get there.

If You're in Lloret try some of the smaller places to eat - chicken and chips (ah...sounds naff but the places are FULL of spanish and the chicken is divine!) El Relicario or La Campana - if you are wandering around the back streets (which is worthwhile, though not too late at night just like anywhere!!) then you'll find them. Cheap and yummy!
