LLoret de Mar

Booked a holiday last night to the LLoret de Mar and would like any 'must see's' please.
We'll be having a day out to Barcelona, possibly to see the football but to see the city.
We have 11 days so plenty of time to do stuff.
I have booked the flights and hotel seperate but not booked any transfers as the hotel agent advised me to hail a cab Going to trawl through the Spainish Tourist Board websites too and print off some maps etc (in work tomorrow) and travel tips for that area/time of the year would be very welcome

Which airport are you flying to? I reckon your taxi ride will be an hour or so whether it's Barcelona or Girona; can you investigate buses for part of the journey.
For one day in Barcelona I would suggest you take the open top bus around the city as it is too big to walk around; one of the routes goes to the Neucamp(? spelling) stadium and you could get off here and do a trip around (think it was about E30 though) and then catch the bus back into the city. Train from LLoret will prob be the best way to get to Barcelona.
There is also a large water park quite near to you so maybe a day there?
    When are you going?

Thanks Ionapenny, we go on the 18th (next Wed) and I think we do fly into Barcelona.

The open top bus is spot on!

Train actually goes from Blanes (next resort down the coast) but there is a bus service from Lloret to Blanes station to tie in with the trains. Service is very good and fairly cheap.

You can take the train directly into central Barcelona - Placa de Catalunya(sp) - where you can catch one of the tourist buses or do whatever you want to do to in the city. It is at the top of the Ramblas and very central.

They are. There are 2 (possibly 3 routes) operating covering most of the city. You can hop on and hop off. You also get money off vouchers for many of the places of interest on the route. The only potential down side is that they can be extremely busy.

I was in Barcelona in February and there were times we had to stand. Not a hope most of the time of a seat on the open deck - but to be honest - it as a bit too cold then to do so anyway (or it was for me).

Would it be worth staying over a night? I'm thinking its an hour to travel even if we set off at 9-10am we would get ther for 11 am ish a day out can be limited with the train times for return. Stay for a meal and a wander, I love wandering in cities at night, people watching or a night tour.

ooo just remembered, check out if the water fountains are on...they are amazing to see
  • If you can do an overnight it will be worth it; we were on the coast further north than LLoret and did one night in Barcelona. I would happily go back there as there is so much to see. As I said the buses are ace, and if you have time take the cable car down from the Olympic village to the harbour, teenagers will surely love it. Hope you have a good holiday, and report back on your return!
