Do you actually reread all your books aliasojo? I find I only reread the books I love, so if I finish a book and would give it less than nine out of ten, it goes to the charity shop.

Nope. :o I keep thinking that one day I might, especially the older ones where it's been so long I'll have forgotten the plot but in reality, I probably wont.

I have loads of books by the same author, 22 books by one particular author and they all look lovely lined up together. When I feel like this it doesn't seem to matter that I wont read them again. :rotfl:

I should have got someone else to box them up, that way I wouldn't even have thought about stuff like this. :o

Put the boxes in the middle of the hall.

After a few days of tripping over them, you'll want to get rid of them.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I find it hard too. what I've been doing while filtering mine is giving them a way to someone I know who loves books but doesn't buy them. She reads them then gives them to the charity shop. Her need spurs me into sorting...which if I were going to sell for 10p each probably I wouldn't bother.

I'm another book hoarder so I can't help there :D

I can't bear to part with any and still have a lot of my childhood books (my Laura Ingalls Wilder books are so dog eared you wouldnt believe lol) I do re-read occasionally but I just can't get rid. I can't borrow from a library because giving them back pains me lol

I keep harbouring in the hope that one day Ill have a nice big study to store them all in lmao
  • I'm a fellow book hoarder. I did try to sell some books on Amazon and ebay but found it too much hassle for such a small return.

Have you tried this site: http://www.readitswapit.co.uk/TheLibrary.aspx

I now swap the books from my shelves and then put the money I would have spent on a Tesco book in a savings pot. Have accumulated quite a bit already.

I used to readitswapit but it wasn't helping to dwindle down the number of books I had so I switched to green metropolis and never looked back! I get rid of roughly 1 book per week and I like seeing them go all over the country (even sent one to a prison once!).

I've not listed all my books on green yet because i've got so many in so many places! I recon if I listed the kids books in the loft they would be in high demand though. Really need to get motivated to do it.

I have no advice, other than... I could have written this post :( Down to things being listed by Author!

I am now not buying any more books and putting the money towards some sort of Kindle/E-Reader type thing to stop this from happening again!

This could also be me too (except i'm still living at home and driving my sisters/parents crazy with the amount of books everywhere)!

In fact i'm going through my book collection bit by bit and giving them to two different Charity shops - this weekend alone i gave 19 books and the weekend before ~15 - my parents are buying me a Kindle for Christmas...the only problem being that i love buying books!

Don't get rid of the ones that mean alot (like your favourite authors whose books you could read time after time), either sell them or give them to Charity and see if you can get an e-reader as The next Verse suggested! :T

I'm a official book hoarder. Can't help it: downside of being a really fast avid reader.

I've just got a Kindle and it's fantastic. I don't use it for fiction books that I'll generally read once- get these from charity shops for 50p. I use it for slower reading books, for example, I have (one of) Stephen Fry's autobiographies, a book off the Man Booker prize list and a maths book on it (along with many others!).
You can have up to 3000 books on it- I doubt even I'll fill that in the Kindle's life time. And they're generally cheaper.
It's not backlit to prevent eyestrain, but you can buy little lights for about £10 or, if you really want a treat, buy a lighted leather cover for £50!

Anyway, back to the point, I give my books to charity or, if I will read them again, put them in large storage boxes under my bed. I have one that is easily accessible at any time, and this rotates about every 2 months, so I have 'new' books that I have rediscovered every 6 months.

Although I do have to do a book clear out every time the boxes get full. It may have been 5 binbags full last time.
