Personally, it seemed like loads of hassle to me and a very slow process if you have hundreds of them to sell. I'm sure I saw mention on the eBay board that people were saying their books just weren't shifting but that was a while ago so might be worth reading the eBay board to see if anyone is selling now and how it's going?

Going off at a slight tangent, what do you think about selling books on E Bay? Do they generally sell for a reasonable price or is it a lot of effort for little return (I'm talking popular fiction).

I've never had issues selling books on ebay - I get people all over the world buying them and even with that in mind, they have all arrived....eventually.....
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Would it lessen the blow slightly if you treat yourself to an Amazon Kindle?

I know it's not quite the same but you could still have your library of books in a manner!

Make a shrine somewhere with some kind of ornament, a couple of vases and 20 of your favourites. Get rid of the rest - you'll never read them again. We never do !
Sell them or donate to your local charity/hospital/hospice.

When these first electronic readers came out I thought it was a horrible idea tbh. I didn't see the point and there's something basic and just nice about having a book in your hand.

However, I think I've changed my mind about this after lying in bed one night when I couldn't sleep, trying to read a book by torchlight so I wouldn't disturb OH. Made no odds though, he said the noise of me turning the pages was annoying him instead. :D

One of these things would cover both problems, it would be backlit so I wouldn't need a torch and it wouldn't be noisy if I was turning the pages. Mmm....might hint to the 'kids' to club together for my birthday. :rotfl:

Encourage "the kids" to get rid of some of your books first ;).
I have my favourite books, books I will read over and over, so they are permanent and I'll never get rid of them. Others I buy, read once, then have no more use for, so I give them to charity/school/or sell them.

I've just been reading up on the Kindle. I think I might want one. :D

I was mistaken about it being backlit though, so would need to get some sort of case with a light or a clip on light etc.

Getting closer to emptying my bookcases. :D

I've just got rid of 2 bin bags on freecycle. I'm the same as you have way too many and rarely re-read. That was my marker in the end, anything I hadn't re-read in the time I had them went. I borrow from the library and book cross now rather than buying from the supermarket. Saves me a fortune and keeps my house clutter free (huh! yeah in theory anyway, I just buy kids books instead :D, my girls are 2 yrs, and 3 months and they have 2 full bookcases- oops!)

It felt great though having empty bookcases! Do it!!

Once I've read a book I can't read it again, but I can't get rid of the book either :o I can if it's a hand me down but not if I've bought it. Since I've read all the books my Dad gave me I've been buying loads and OH is talking about putting some shelves up for me  I'm thinking of joining the library... our house isn't big enough for shelves to be put up all over the place.

That Kindle thingy looks good but I'm too scared to read too much about it incase I start to neeeeed one :o
Even if you stumble, you're still moving forward.

Some library services now supply ebooks. What about an ipad ? I think that's backlit.
