Sorry OP, can't help at all. I can't get rid of any of my books, let alone persuade anyone else to do the same. I love reading and I love having books around. For me it makes my house feel homely.
I guess one way would be to give your books to a good cause (Library, charities etc, but to be read not to be sold). That way you know that the book will be read and appreciated. I think I'd find that the easiest way to get rid of my books.
Books are good insulation though, so could help keep your heating bills downIf having different experiences, thoughts and ideas to you, or having an opinion that you don't understand, makes me a troll, then I am proud to be a 100% crying, talking, sleeping, walking, living Troll. :hello:0 -

I can't even justify keeping them that way, I've just spent months ripping off plasterboard and insulating the walls.Herman - MP for all!0 -
i got rid of lots earlier this year..... and sometimes regret it..... but there are plenty left for me to read (and i can justify 'browsing' in the charity shop again!).
if you do end up doing a boot sale, don't expect to get lots of money. 50p a go is all i could people to pay for paperbacks, with nothing much going to over a couple of pounds, even harbacks. for good quality hardbacks, ebay did really well. everything sold, some went up to £8/10 and it was worth the hassle for the best ones to get more money for them.:happyhear0 -
Why don't you ease yourself into it by listing some online? You an tell yourself that they won't necessarily sell so you're not really getting rid of them, and then when you've made some money it might inspire you to get rid of the rest.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

I'm another great fan of greenmetropolis...and the beauty is you can build up funds to purchase new ones (I use mine to buy hardback versions of my favourites!)0

Tbh, I don't have the time or the inclination at the moment. We still live in a building site and I'm still sorting out materials and tradesmen and I live for the day when I don't have to think about anything.
Any other time, I think I might even enjoy listing all my books but right now it's just an added chore/stress I could do without.
I've got as far as having emptied some bookcases and the books are all piled high in the hall. Bookcases have been moved out of bedroom and it looks weird. Haven't decided yet if it's a good weird or a bad weird.
Made the mistake of flicking though some books. Most of them are pristine and they just look so nice, they're calling to me.......save me, save me.
If I ever win the lottery, I'm having a book room! Also known as a library.:rotfl:

I've just been reading up on the Kindle. I think I might want one.
I was mistaken about it being backlit though, so would need to get some sort of case with a light or a clip on light etc.
Getting closer to emptying my bookcases.
This thread is quite good, gives alternatives to the kindle https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2714245:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Do it, Alias!!!
a. Paperbacks sell really well at car boots (at least in my experience). Do this for the crappy ones that you know you'll never read.
b. Keep the ones you love and you know you'll re-read.
c. If you have any non-fiction or slightly more obscure fiction titles, check what they go for online and sell them there! :money: I sell books on Amazon - it's easy-peasy - ok Amazon charge a fortune in fees  but they make it so easy to do it (no need to enter enything else but the barcode and brief description of conidition). Any books worth more than a couple of quid are worth selling on Amazon (unless they weigh a ton - see the Amazon selling thread on the Ebay board).
I would love a proper study with floor-to-ceiling shelves too BTWbut can't see it happening until I'm about 80... :rotfl:
