The insurance only covers those who have chip and pin (if it was used of course!) I believe so no online retailers (like us) although I think securecode may offer similar.
However if the thief uses chip and pin I believe the bank can then refuse to pay the money back to the cardholder as they can claim the details were not held securely!
There are TWO thieves in those scenarios: the banks and the thief themselves!
(just my opinion!)Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
If you don't like my opinion feel free to respond with your own.0 -

where was barclaycard security???? when blocking the card , then the person doing a change of address, 2 new cards and 2 new pins and for the record they spent £2000 each day for 5 days... surely there are alerts that should be put in place for each amendment..... the downfall is india and i am convinced of it.....
as a company only security is mothers maiden name ..... scandalous........ they should be asking what was last balance? how you pay it|?
To be fair when I call barclaycard they ask me about a random transaction from a previous statement and ask what it was for or how much it was to the nearest pound. Don't think I've ever only been asked my mothers maiden name with any financial organisation. It's a minimum of first line of address, DOB, maiden name and account password.0 -

the person used chip and pin therefore shopkeepers are not liable. I do not have password with barclaycard till now. Never been asked to set up one which is ridiculous0 -

I dont think I have been asked either. Which is a good thing as I am always forgetting them anyway. I try to do all banking online. However Nationwide are now wanting me to stop that as well!0 -
This is strange.
I tried to use my barclaycard in Sainsburys on wednesday evening and it was declined.
Went home rang barclaycard and got india I was on phone for two hours trying to pass security but they kept saying I was answering wrongly and told be to go to barclays bank the following day with ID documents.
When I got tio the bank they tried to acess my account and came back to me saying my address was different. They wanted to know if I had moved house. Which I hadnt. So they gave me a number to call from home.
Turns out someone had acessed my barclaycard account and changed my address and contact numbers. It happened on 11th October 2010. There was also a fraudulant transaction on the same day. I wasnt able to pass security because they wanted me to give the name of the store where i bought some clothes... guess what.. this was the fraudulant transaction... how would i know the answer to that one?0 -
barclaycard security question is mothers maiden name and woman said easy for people to access family trees to pass this..
Whcih is why it's a good idea not to give your real mothers maiden name as the answer to this security question - you're not obliged to be truthful, just provide an answer that you can remember but no-one else will find out.0 -

I have never given my mothers maiden name. I use a secret word that whilst I know has no relevance to any part of my life now. No one can find it.
I am quite surprised that they still want this information. I understand the meaning behind it. But some 'families' are no longer married and three of my friends who have married in the past 5 years havent changed names.0 -
