Strange bidding situation

After the auction, the seller and his accomplice agree not to complete the sale and the underbidder gets offered the item at a grossly inflated price.
OR a genuine bidder just bid a higher amount than Sphynxs highest bid
Not everything is a conspiracy when it comes to eBay :rotfl::AWhatever it is - I didn't do it!:A0 -
With the captains chair, for instance, if the BIN was still showing, doesn't that mean that there's a reserve on it that hadn't been met?
Although it seems a bit silly to take an item off 4 hours before hand if there's a reserve, so I'm probably talking rubbish.0 -
hi i think what happened here is that it was an automatic bid , where ebay bid on your behalf after you set an amount .
a little tip from an expert buyer
wait until 50 seconds and then put in the MOST you would be willing to pay and add 15p , it works for me had loads of bargains, as by the time someone puts in another bid it is usually too late .
keep smiling :j

If you are not bidding at the last minute, you are simply inviting other bidders to challenge you, thereby raising the final price - whoever wins. I always decide my maximum price in advance and hold my cards tight to my chest until the last few seconds, using an auction sniper. This also reduces the chances of the seller utilising a shill bidder ID to push up the price.
As a seller, I have noticed that when I receive an early bid, interest and watchers develop early too, which sometimes dramatically increases the final price, far beyond what I expected. Sometimes bidders lose sight of the price and become determined to win, which is a crazy way to buy at auction!"The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing.

It seems likely that the seller (who is the only person who would know exactly what your bid is) arranged for someone to put in the higher bid. Suggest you mark this seller as one to avoid like the plague.

You are all barking mad. Bid early, bid late, bid in the middle. If you are outbid it's a con.
Everybody is using sniping tools now. Convinced they work. Logical nonsense.0 -
I always bid early and at my maximum bid. I then forget about it. If I win the auction great, if I don't then there will be another along another day! I never get into a bidding war. And who has time to sit waiting for auctions to finish?0

May I suggest you use ebay a little more before assuming all sellers are crooks. A seller does NOT know how much a bidder has bid.
Good grief if i had to avoid every seller where I got outbid I'd rarely buy anything.

^^^^ also .. it's been a while but I'm pretty sure that the seller doesn't know your bid. They don't see your max amount. Am I wrong?
Re having bids retracted. I once bid £150 instead of £1.50. Rapidly learnt how to retract bids on that one! I know it wouldnt ahve goen for that but I wasn't prepared to pay over the odds for it either!House saving Targets:
