This is the only £499 house i can find with that agent has been reduced on RM:
    http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-30363371.html

It's on with five agents though! And it was £610,000 with one agent two and half years ago. It's not that one is it?

The other one is this one:
    http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-27289015.html
Looks new to market on property bee (might not be, obv). On with two agents.

No wonder they left the outside pictures until last!!

Offers Over half a million for that?! It wouldn't even get half that where I live.

What a difference between in and out. I'm genuinely shocked. Fair enough if it's someone's home and they've made it minty inside, but a developer to do that inside and then it looks like that on the outside? Blimey. Half a million pounds.

The description by the agent says "...we highly recommend viewing as this will sell quickly."

Surely that needs to be updated now to "this place has been on the market for several months now and has come down in price by £75k. We highly recommend putting in a cheeky offer".
If I had a pound for every time I didn't play the lottery...

Doozergirl catbells has already posted a link to the property in question in post number 18 (I think!). I guess though... how many times do you actually spend outside your house looking at the exterior? We saw a pebble dash house and my hubby hated it, I can see real potential inside (done badly by a developer but that can easily be rectified bit by bit) but it was a no in the end as not in the catchment of a good school. And come to think of it, I don't really give much thought to what the outside of my house (or my friends' houses for that matter!) looks like! Is exterior really that important?

    Thanks, missed that one!

Is exterior really that important? To me, yes, it's very important. Most of us have compromises to make, especially if half a million still only buys you a semi! But I like to see a pretty house with the lights burning when I come home. (And the inside looking good as well!)

I'd much prefer catbell's choice to the 70s box. Instantly looks to me like it's worth more as well. The London market doesn't really like that mid-century stuff, it usually reflects heavily on the price.

I saw this one too when it was up in the £570k region earlier this year. Its only got 2 bedrooms (two knocked into one). The downstairs is really quite nice though. But that £499k for 2 bedrooms - no way. Its also not too far from the M1 and train line which you can hear in the garden.

    Yes I did thanks.

I think the position is good.

Interested reading Doozer's comments about the outside. If the outside is unattractive and its priced right, that means you are getting a lot of house (inside) for your money. I would be happy with that. Much prefer a nicer inside and unattractive outside than vice versa.

I'd have said the exact opposite Silvercar - as the pictures show, a buyer can do a great deal to the interior - redecorate, new kitchen, bathroom, knock thru rooms etc to make it look very lovely, but precious little to the exterior.

With that house you're probably limited to changing the windows and repainting the garage door and facia boards a colour other than brown...(although it matches the grim tiled front wall...)

Well that one is REALLY ugly from the outside and the inside is REALLY impressive. Hard to decide in this case. Personally I think the outside wins and I would steer clear especially given the price.
