lol i have a budget of 250k and still cant find a decent 2 bedroom flat, though i am looking in North london and new builds. I think maybe East london is cheaper and maybe SE as mentioned, but you get some dodgy areas around there. As for houses you have no chance, unless you look at areas like chelthnam you might get a 2 bed terrace for 100-130k. If you want to be in london just keep saving until you get 60/70K and then you might be in for a shot.

I went from Essex to south of the river (4 different properties that side) and back to north again (and am planning on going back to Essex as soon as we can sell!).

    I'm still breathing ;)

Lots of bearable bits in East London. I'm in Highams Park which is very reasonable and kinda villagey but still London, and Chingford's still in East London and that's not got much of a London feel. Lots of places north and south I'd not feel safe in or want to live in.

I was born and brought up saarf of the River - and lived to tell the tale!
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

60k depsoit just seems unreal to me.

Sure we can get out of the house when we aren't working but it all costs!

Going out, meals out, shopping, drinks - it all costs.

My gf is even looking to get a 2nd job to get more money in.

I wish this country wasn't so obessed with property prices. Success measured on how high they are. I was reading today an entire generation is being priced out the market - 1st time buyers fuel the housing market but they can no longer afford it. Where will the housing market be then eh? It's crazy how much they have gone up in just over 10 years. Madness.

That's what I thought, until I found out I could buy a large 1 bed flat with parking in SE london, 2 miles closer to work, for about 10-20k less than it would cost me to buy a studio in NW6.

It's cheaper than renting your own place though. And it doesn't have to cost masses.

Pub quiz - don't have to buy expensive drinks; some don't charge entry and if they do it's usually only £1 or so.

Many museums in London are free and some have late night opening.

Are you working in central london? - I know London's an expensive place but on the flip side there is SO much on, and plenty to do for free or cheap.

I will think of other things - have to go catch my train now.

Aye I work in Central London.

Taken this long to actually get talking to people proper but still not got real friends here and my gf works at night. I mean I get to relax at the house more or less ok. The mueseums are free but getting around or too there isn't I'm afraid.

I think they only chance we are gon ahve is outside of London and hope they will take my gf's job into account for the mortgage. I found some fair priced properties in Kent, I just there's no extra's.

There was one that was a maisonette to buy but then in futher details it had service charge and ground rent - I thought you only pay rent and service charge when you was a) renting and or b) in an flat.

    Am I wrong?
