Hello all- I'm David- experienced fireworks buyer and user. Hope to give some general imput , there seems to be a lot of odd ideas floating round.

    1. Supermarket buy one get one free deals. Generally, average and unspectacular fireworks, the asking price being well in excess of what they are worth. Eg £1.50 for sparklers- shop around, they can be 80p-90p at the most. 5 small rockets, generally would/should be priced at £5-£6 at the most- these on the "deal" are £10 . Pack of 4 single shot candles, would be around £5 or so - these are asking £10 Buy one get one "free." So, it's not really buy one get one free - it's more like, buying two at a marginal discount, or none at all. Genuine "Buy one get one free" offers are usually to clear overstocked items etc- these firework "deals" seem very much pre-planned marketing strategies. At the end of a day, a business is a bsuiness, and does not make money by giving stuff away free.

    2. All year round suppliers. Some are good, some less so - just varies from shop to shop. Generally, you can count on a much better selection that Supermarkets.

    3. Epic- there is no London branch, so I'm not sure where the poster above called . They are based in Barnsley, Yorkshire- I'd suggest anyone calls direct if they are unsure if Epic are trade only etc.

    4. The "all fireworks should be banned" brigade. Surely there are more appropriate places to vent your opnions? This is a thread, one assumes, for people who are interested in buying fireworks- which are a perfectly legal item. It's bullish to storm in with unwelcome opinions.

    5. "The UKFR is very fond of Epic" I laughed at this. Yes, there are a lot of people on the UKFR who are very fond of Epic. It will only be a matter of time before someone offers a marraige proposal. :heartpuls:heartpuls:heart: But seriously (I'm kidding of course about marraige) Epic are a very good supplier, and well deserving of such a reputation.

Their brochure says Trade only, and thats what they told me when I called the London branch. I've sent you a message mate.

epic DO sell to the public:I bought over £300.00 worth of cat3 25m display retail fireworks at their great value trade+vat prices as an individual from the tankersley branch and I got plenty of them for it, and they even threw in a few freebies with a bit of negotiation! It is an excellent place with a massive showroom, huge range, helpful staff, great service and free refreshments while you wait for your order and they bring straight to your vehicle:I recommend them highly to anybody.

    on the original post...

I have been to China, I have visited fireworks factories and I have seen supermarket fireworks being produced. Believe me when I say they are built to a price and I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

Get yourself to a year round supplier who rely on repeat customers and stock GOOD quality fireworks that they have tested themselves to ensure the quality can be relied upon.

    Stu

supermarket fireworks used to be good before the march2008 regs came in,then after that they went weak and flopped.

I don't have a problem with fireworks at home, only that the use should be strictly limited to bonfire night only.

I just know that from November til January, fireworks will be going off.
  • Got most of my firework stash as usual from Epic Fireworks in Barnsley yesterday, usual top service and top fireworks, spent £500 and still more to come. Ready for the family party on November 5th as always, loads of food and drink aswell. I can't stand organized displays, takes all the fun away, can't beat the buzz of doing your own fireworks at home.

Have been firing my fireworks at home on Bonfire Night for over 10 years and not had an accident once, it gets better each year and we have changed the minds of quite a few of our family and friends over the years who used to think fireworks were no good at home or a waste of money. They love it now and already started asking us last month were we doing our fireworks again on Bonfire Night, and can they come round again!

Si7, the Sheffield "head office" is the only one that stocks and sells fireworks.
  • Epic Fireworks Head Office in Barnsley is open to the public, don't worry about that! It's just a normal firework shop, well not normal, very big, but you get what I mean. :)

Ah, OK. Seems Rainmong was looking at the London branch & myself the Leicester branch, I clicked the Epic "Contact" page and chose the Leicester branch from the list due to the locality.

so basically we all can agree that most if not all supermarket fireworks are party poppers. and not worth the money we put into them.

well you see this is why this site got created http://www.thefireworkshoplist.com/beta/ for the alternative and the most efficient way of buying fireworks. and i do mean good fireworks. yes epic fireworks are very good, but you should shop around alot more. to get an idea what you like in your back garden display.

i have pasted my beta page up there because after Christmas most shop will have updated there and address and it should be easier to find firework shops in your area.

and before we all have a dig saying its off topic. i will be happy to remove the link if on request.
