Nothing to do with being a killjoy !

Organised events are far superior, far safer, far more enjoyable, cause less disruption, less disturbance, save hundreds from getting injured, save the taxpayer a fortune from the cost of incidents started by irresponsible people and save a lot of unneccessary stress to animals !

If things are done properly at a home event, and good fireworks are chosen-it can be just as good and just as fun.

And if you ban fireworks from sale, people will still get dangerous blackmarket ones which will be more lethal and even deadly than the BS7114 compliant shop goods fireworks and would result in even more casualties and fatalities! You can't win.

organised displays only and a ban on the retail sale of fireworks are the response of spoilsports like yourself, princesswoo, and sillysausage which come out with this dogooding killjoy sentiment every year! I prefer well organised parties with 2 or 3 responsible adults like myself dealing with the fireworks, and kids and parents and families at a safe distance at least 25m away. I organise it meticulously well with a high priority on safety:the firers wear 3 in one hardhats with builtin clear visor and eardefenders and gloves while letting off the fireworks, all the people who come stand 25m away upwind behind a rope and the bonfire is roped off too for safety. I have got over £300 of cat3 25m display fireworks from epic of sheffield with some cracking finale pieces to end with! There is also a gazebo patio heater and calorgas bbq with loads of food and tons of drink for people to enjoy. If thats not safe and well organised and worth it tell me what is! I dont need organised displays on bonfirenight, well organised home events say it for me thank you very much.
  • blah blah blah - can we please get back to the OP's original opening re BOGOF firework deals please?

BUT just in response, £300 worth of fireworks at your home display and tons more stuff ? Your original dig at my comment was that public displays were more costlier, yeah well.....

    Over and out......

Organised displays cost thousands of pounds for anything from a short 10min blast to something lasting best part of an hour.
  • oh dear, I'll leave Anthony alone.....

    on the original post...

I have been to China, I have visited fireworks factories and I have seen supermarket fireworks being produced. Believe me when I say they are built to a price and I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

Get yourself to a year round supplier who rely on repeat customers and stock GOOD quality fireworks that they have tested themselves to ensure the quality can be relied upon.

Don't usually post here, but thought I should. I agree completely with Anthony, I mean fair enough if you want to go to an organised display amongst thousands of other people well thats fair enough, its up to you. But dont be calling for fireworks to be banned to the public just because you have the opinion that most people that use them dont do so in a safe and sensible manner. Its people like you that are ruining all the fun things in life, where do you draw the line? Do you want to ban driving since so many people are killed every year by road incidents?

Anyway, on topic, if you do want to buy some fireworks this year and dont want to be dissapointed then stay well clear of most if not all supermarket brands. Even at the advertised "BOGOF" they are truly bad value for money and the supermarkets play on the fact that its convenient for people to buy their fireworks with the weekly shop. Do some research online and find yourself and all year retailer, most of them have websites with videos of the fireworks they sell, so do some research and dont be wasting your money at supermarkets every year!
