"Consumer Focus urges anyone who thinks they may be entitled to a refund but have not heard from npower by the end of November to call the npower helpline on 0800 975 7938. It particularly urges previous npower customers who have switched supplier and changed address to get in contact if they do not hear from the supplier (these customers may be harder for npower to track down).
How much can I expect to receive?
Payments will range from £1 to £100. The average payment will be £35 plus interest and VAT on top. This is a combined £63m of refunds plus 5% VAT and 6.7% interest.
Is the level of payment accurate?
Npower has worked closely with Consumer Focus to review its customer accounts and calculate fair payments for individuals. The watchdog said: "We think these payments offer fair recompense for overpayments customers made."
However, if you still feel you have not been refunded adequately you should contact npower's helpline on 0800 975 7938 in the first instance, and Consumer Direct on 08454 040506 for further advice if you remain dissatisfied.
Consumer Focus said that if you do dispute the payment, when you call npower you should provide your name, the address at which you were supplied with gas by npower in 2007, the period during which you were supplied, and where possible your npower account number from that period".

We have moved twice since Npower supplied us but they still tracked us down and said they owe us £66.0

4649-4572 = 77
77*2.497p (4.412-1.915) = £1.92
5888-4572 = 1316
1316*4.333p = £57.02
Total £58.94
VAT @ 5% = £61.88
Interest @ 6.66%
Total £66.01
I've received the breakdown now.
The 06/07 units were fairly similar to the above and the rate used is 2.497p (4.412-1.915) so I'm happy with that.
With regard to 07/08, the units are again almost the same but the rate is only 2.06p !
As DD pointed out on #140 they should credit back at the higher rate of 4.333p, not 2.497p (as all the 4572 have been used up already) and certainly not at an invented figure of 2.06p.
The VAT and interest at 6.66% are correct.
Incidentally, the schedule doesn't show the rates (presumably so that most people won't check them). The two key columns are headed "Excess Primary Units" and "Value" and you have to calculate the rate yourself.
I'm just sending a letter to npower with my calculations and requesting a higher figure.0 -
ive recieved a letter today saying im owed £42:D0

I've just been offered £71.70 but am a bit suspicious as to how they arrived at this figure. I probably do have the bills somewhere and so could calc this all up but i'm not very organised...so.. my question is, is there a limit to what theyre paying out per customer? I'm trying to figure out if its worth all the effort to recalculate it all and argue with them over it or just take the money and run....

It might be right or not. npowerland is a difficult one to navigate and beyond the most advanced satnav!
I checked someonelses payment (not retired cricketers) who received £60 odd. They had used an unfathomable price difference, as in retired cricketers case, and using the correct one should have recived in excess of £100.00.
Would be nice to know how they worked yours out. Could be a pattern emerging here.
Have a look at this out of interest.

have just received a letter offering £3.99. we left NPower earlier this year but had been with them at our previous address prior to moving here and transferred our account. Can I query this amount before registering on line. It seems such a piddley amount to get after seeing other people's refunds.0

I would say Yes - since I received £57 from two years, low useage - why not give it a go - let us know how you get on

Not sure how you will do this. They told us we were not overcharged despite being on Npower over the critical period. What should we say to them?0
