DirectDebacle wrote: »The 4572kWh per annum is a maximum amount not a mandatory amount. If you were not charged 4572 in the year 6/9/08 - 6/9/09 then either your gas usage was insufficient or npower have mis-calculated. Either way this is a separate issue to the previous two years when you were overcharged and you should be re-imbursed accordingly.
If npower now wish to claim that you were undercharged in 08/09 then they need to show how this occurred and give you the opportunity to agree their reasons/figures or not.
I am very willing to take it up with them again but feel I need to know the rules if possible. Otherwise they will still say the same thing.0 -

1/6/06 - 31/5/07 £1.48
1/6/07 - 31/5/08 £54.38
Both figures + VAT & interest.
Would need to know the billing period they have based your payment on, the amount of gas used and your prices.
From June 06 to June 07 I was charged 4649 units at the higher rate. The rates were 3.968 and 2.068 from June to 1 October 2006 when they increased to 4.412 and 1.915
From June 07 to June 08 I was charged 5888 units at the higher rate. The rates were 4.412 and 1.915 from June to 4 Jan 08 when they increased to 6.323 and 1.990.
Thank you0 -

I wasn't far out.
4649-4572 = 77
77*2.497p (4.412-1.915) = £1.92
5888-4572 = 1316
1316*4.333p = £57.02
Total £58.94
VAT @ 5% = £61.88
Interest @ 6.66%
Total £66.010 -

If you joined around 12th november then it looks accurate. Variations will occur because of different quantities of gas used, dates years are calculated from and regional pricing.0 -
Thanks DD for reply. I suspect what they are saying is that during the months May to September 2009 that I was only charged 46 primary units per month and therefore undercharged. The only bill period I have for then is 30/4/09 to 9/12/09 with 3994 primary units. So I can't tell how they have been allocated to the summer months. Are they allowed to use the new seasonal values in their break up of a year for the reimbursment calculations or should it be divided equally over the bill period? There is a difference of over 2000 units in the 2 methods.
I am very willing to take it up with them again but feel I need to know the rules if possible. Otherwise they will still say the same thing.
As I explained previously you only need concern yourself with 2 periods.
6/9/06 - 5/9/07 and 6/9/07 - 6/9/08. Introducing other dates/periods by npower only serves to add confusion, which is usually to their advantage.
npower have told you the starting date they are using as your anniversary date for calculating any year for the purposes of the 4572kWh P.B. So make them stick to it.
If they start to talk about years or parts of years where you were not charged more than 4572kWh then what they are saying is they did not breach their contract and is not in itself an undercharge.
All you need to talk about is the two specific years that they did breach their contract with you. So pin them down. Ask them, according to their calculations, how many P.B. units you were charged in each of those years. Ask them what price differentials they used to calculate the costs. There should be two. One applicable to the price change as of 1/5/07, which for me was 4.412p and 1.915p and the other after 4/1/08 which for me was 6.323p and 1.990p. Yours may well be different.
The bill you have 30/4/09 -9/12/09 does not look correct.
According to their published monthly charging rates you should have been charged no more than 1669kWh P.B. units.
As you say 46 are allocated for each month May-Sept, 271 for Oct, and 882 each for Nov.& Dec. Dec units are 882/31*9.
In any event your P.B. year ends on 5/9/09. All of this is a side issue as it is outside of the relevant period 6/9/06 - 5/9/08.
Sort out with them how they have reached your refund figure first.
Questions about undercharging etc. can be dealt with separately and later0 -

So is all of 07/08 credited at the higher rate of 4.333 rather than pro-rata (roughly 50/50) at 2.497 and 4.333 ?0 -

Yes. The reason is because the 4572kWh is reached about 19th January 08 so all the excess units are charged after the 4/1/08 price increase.0 -

I get it now ! So as you stated previously, they have only offered half of what's due.
When (if !) they send me the calculation, it will be very interesting to see how they have arrived at a mere £35. I will put the calculation on the thread when I get it.
Thanks (again) for your help0
