  • I'm in the same position - Windows 98SE and IE6.

I've e-mailed querying why I can access numerous other secure sites with my setup but not theirs. No reply yet.

I read somewhere that using Firefox browser solves the problem but I'm not confident enough I can set up all my favourites and so on again so am not going to change.

It looks like it's the insecure access or upgrade to Windows XP.

UPDATE (see later posts). Firefox solves the problem and is easy to use - even for a wimp like me.

I am by no means an expert, but you do not need to set up your favourites to use Fire fox, just download it HERE and use as required.
if you want to move your favourites just use the import tool it is easy if I can do it, and you can still use IE if you want

  • As a matter of interest I just checked my 18866 account, using Firefox and Windows XP, no problems and a secure padlock showing.

I would agree on the above comments about Firefox, very easy to downland, transfer your favourites and much better to use than IE ;)
  • I've just downloaded Firefox and can confirm that, with Windows98SE with Firefox, I can access 18866's secure site (padlock showing).

I assume there is a post-setup way to transfer/copy favourites over (I said 'NO' during the setup process) if I want to.

There must be a way, but I don`t know it,might be easier to unistall then reinstall clicking yes when asked, all your IE things will be then imported

Thanks Derrick - there is a way (a little obvious really).

Newbie here, do I understand if I download firefox, I will be able to access the secure site? I am a bit reluctant to do it as I do not know what I am supposed to be downloading. Thanks

Sorry I just edited your post there instead of quoting!

Firefox is an internet browser similar to Internet Explorer, you can use both. There are a few sites that don't support Firefox but it is generally felt to be better than IE and I now seldom use IE. If you are on dial up I found that Firefox was very much quicker at loading pages than IE which is not so noticable on broadband. HTH
