Have you tried registering using a mobile number instead of a landline number. Once registered you can remove/add numbers.
  • I've now received "congratulations email", having taken advise and registered my mobile number instead of landline.

Went into personal details to add home number. Tried several times and keep getting "an error occured".

Onzey, Is there another way I can register my home line and remove the mobile number?

    Thanks

    Don't know of another way.

I have just tried going into my account and adding a number with no problem. (I'm using Firefox rather than Internet Explorer so don't know if that's relevant). The number appeared within 5 minutes when I checked again for registered numbers

I think if I were in your position I would try adding any other number e.g. a relatives landline or mobile number, just to see if the problem of adding numbers is specific to your own landline number.

If you've only just received the Congratulations email perhaps you have to wait a short while before you can add numbers. Can't remember if I had to wait at all when I registered last year.

If you can't get anywhere tonight, leave it and try again in the morning.

    Good luck.

I posted something here a few days ago but here's an update.

The story so far....my bank sends me a new debit card; 'chip + pin', nothing unusual in that. But obviously when one gets a new Visacard one has to inform certain sites that there's been a change, paypal, ebay, amazon etc. I successfully did this with https://www.call188866.co.uk but got fed up with https://www.call1899.com because every time I went in to change my payment details I got 'Error login failed please try again, or words to that effect. Last month they tried to take £3.32 for January's phone bill but couldn't; obviously because it was on the old debit card. So my call188866/call1899 accounts are blocked until I pay up. So I go back to the login page and try again. The same, 'error login failed etc' So then I e-mail them; in total 5 times I think it is. Have I received any replies? Nothing, zero, zilch. Now it's not the lack of a cheap phone provider that's the problem I have NTL and use One-Tel so my bills aren't that expensive anyway; it's the fact that I am probably now 'blacklisted' by other credit agencies because of this debt. And with no customer service hotline to ring I only have e-mail to use to contact them. And as they don't reply to my e-mails......!

As a subscriber to 'Which?' magazine I tried their customer services hotline. They were very sympathetic and may well indeed do an article about companies like call1899.com in a future issue. They pointed me in the way of the Trading Standards Office who pointed me towards OTELO who pointed me towards OFCOM who said they could do nothing because this company aren't based in the UK so they pointed me towards the Federal Office of Communications in Switzerland because https://www.call1899.com are a Swiss-based company. I've just e-mailed the Swiss FOC and they might not have a contact address for them either. I've also just written to Martin himself. Fingers are being tightly crossed as we speak!

  • As suggested, Yesterday I tried adding a different phone number to my list - Surprise, Surprise - it was accepted and I got the "successful confirmation - will take effect in 30 mins" on the screen. But I still got the error message when inputting my home number. I tried again today with my home number and it was accepted - i.e. got the "successful..." on screen. So I shall wait 30 mins and see what happens.

But I don't understand is what happened to the other "test" number I input yesterday which was confirmed, because it still doesn't appear on my list.

Also, I know I kept getting error message when trying to input my home number yesterday, yet when I tried dialing from my home line using 1899 (yesterday), I just kept getting engaged tones.

Lets Hope its all okay and sorted today, fingers crossed. It seems a lot of trouble to go through just to register with this company. However, in the end the savings on phone calls will more than make up for it.

    Niteowl.

monty58 are you certain you've got your account number correct? As far as I can see, you're saying you can't log in, not that it won't accept your new card.
Your 1899 customer number consists of 9 digits and can be found on the confirmation e-mail you received upon registering. You can also call 0808-170 1899 from a registered line to obtain your customer number.
If you are still unable to login one day after registration, please email your telephone number and customer number by using the correct form in 'contact us'.

Try that again, but if you really must throw weight around that much -
    Finarea SA
    Viale Carlo Cattaneo 1
    6900 Lugano
    Switzerland
+41 919225431 - I have no idea whether they answer this phone

If I can find this, why the Swiss wouldn't is a mystery

It wasn't that I couldn't log in because I didn't know my account number; I knew that which is why I couldn't work out why I couldn't log in. But the following reply from ...? at call1899.com sheds light:

    Dear Sir or Madam,

    Thank you for your mail.

Should your account be blocked as a result of failed payments you cannot change your payment details until the block has been removed due to security reasons. There are two ways to unblock your account:

    1. Online banking
If you have online banking please transfer the full outstanding invoice, without rounding up or down, to account 22069880, sort code 15-10-00 in name of Connect Telecom UK Limited in London. Please ensure you state your CUSTOMER NUMBER with your payment.

    2. Payment by cheque
Alternatively you may pay by cheque. The minimum payment we accept by cheque is £ 10 to cover bank charges. Should your outstanding balance be less than £ 10, you will still need to send a cheque for at least £ 10. Any overpayment will be added to your 1899 account as a prepaid credit. If your outstanding balance is over £ 10 please pay the full outstanding amount. Cheques should be made payable to Connect Telecom UK Limited and sent to Finarea, PO Box 45574 London NW1 3YL.

Please ensure to mention your customer number when making a payment. It may take up to 7 working days before your payment is received and processed.
We hope this has answered your question.

Now this clearly explains why; because I obviously need to pay off my January bill of £3.32 first.....which is total pants! Because I tried to let them know that I had been given a brand new 'chip + pin' card as soon as I had received it in the post which was way BEFORE my January bill went out; and I couldn't do it then either; getting the same 'Error login failed please try again later' message as I do now.....so to sum up; if you are going to be changing banks or cards or both and obviously have to let this lot know about it; just be prepared for loads of hassle!

    Hi everyone,
have been trying to register unsuccessfully with 18866.

I see an earlier poster states "if you are having the same problems then you will note that the first page offers those with IE5 or lower the chance to go to an unsecure registration page.
    this works........"

I'm doubtless being thick here, but I can't see this option on either site - where is it?

    Thanks

I'm with 18866 and haven't had any problems with the credit card, maybe it's a temp problem they have.
    Nice to save.

Just trying to check my account this afternoon and got this pop up. I am using windows 98 and do not really want to use the non secure site. Is it happening to other members as well?

You are using an outdated version of Internet Explorer and/or Windows. Due to security issues Call18866 does NOT support this configuration for logging in and signing up for our services. We STRONGLY suggest you update your computer and browser to the latest standards.

If you wish to proceed, you can go to a non-secure version of our login and signup pages at your own risk. Call18866 does NOT take responsibility for any loss of data and/or breaches of your account information when you decide to proceed.

I do not wish to proceed to the non-secure login pages. It's the first time this has happened to me. Aany advice, please. Thanks
