Hi all, with the bread mixes does the dough still rise, was concerned if I ordered it but then it doesnt make bread (due to old yeast) but a lump?

I just add a sachet of fast action yeast to it - works fine (I use 450ml water to 750g of mix and add the yeast in my bread maker)
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.
  • The yeast is still active in the 3.5kg bags the individual loaf mixes are a bit hit & miss but if you want to play it safe then just add more yeast when you make it up, extra yeast will not cause any problems with your bread.
You can get free fresh yeast from Tesco if you ask for it at the bakery counter or you can usually find large packs of dried or easyblend yeast which are economical to buy in most health food shops.
  • I have not had any problems with any of the 3.5 kg bread/pizza mixes, must have just been lucky. The pizza mix is so simple and so scrummy.

Not quite so happy with the Hovis mixes, have found they are not very successful in my bread machine. Have had to do by hand, has anyone else had any problems.

May just try the extra yeast idea!

  • I have never used the bread mix, but I know the reduced fat sponge mix is great, so are the cadburys mixes.
  • I agree the low fat sponge mix is great and so versatile.

Tried the extra yeast and that didn't make any difference, must have got an iffy batch. Not unusable, just not as good as expected.

All of the items I have had have been well worth the money. I know they are cheap, but you have to take the postage costs into account.
