Well... I'll try my first meal planner.. I usually do whatever I can be bothered to do.. but this week I shall try planning..
Monday ~ roast chicken (DH can have quorn lemon and pepper pieces) with salad and new potatoes.
Use carcasses for chicken stock
Tuesday ~ yesterdays chicken stock for turkey casserole. DH will have meatless stew.. or I may fling in some quorn pieces we have if it looks bland.
remainder goes in the freezer for my lunches.
Wednesday ~ toad in the hole (never made my own before so here goes!!) with mash and veggies.
Thursday ~ chicken dippers (DH will have fish cakes) with roasties and veggies, whatever we have in the house)
Friday ~ sausage casserole (DH gets veggie sausage casserole) with crusty bread
Saturday ~ pasta with whatever combination od sauce DH makes!! Saturday has just become his day to cook!!! I decided I do enough.
Sunday ~ veggie savoury mince with mash
Desserts & snacks .. we have fresh fruit, yoghurts and HM fruit cake
breakfasts .. we have toast, weetabix, porridge or sandwiches.
Lunches.. the children have hot school meals. I have freezer leftovers and the 2 littlies have cheese straws.. I will endeavour to learn to make my own!!.. or they have sausage rolls or noodles or sandwiches.. I'll try not to visit Cooplands out of laziness!!!
Shopping list: [STRIKE]huge sack of potatoes (Sending DH in a bit), [/STRIKE][STRIKE]2 roast chickens (local butcher does them for £3 for 2 and saves fuel cooking them), [/STRIKE]mushrooms, mixed veggies for savoury mince... and [STRIKE]salad [/STRIKE]and wraps because my 15 year old just scoffed it all! not to mention the hundred loaves and 12 gallons of milk we go through!!

Good job Pigpen, you find you will save money by planning like this. I do a months plan at a time and have found it brilliant. Instead of going over my £350 budget like I use to every month I know come in under it or on target but have paid for extra things like haircuts, DD lunch-club, tights for DD's etc. Normally this would have been spend on the card so not budgetted for.
It really is a great feeling and takes some of the pressure off.0 -

Meant to post this the other day, after I actually planned the week's menus and we did a big shop. Usually I don't plan, but we have built up such a huge amount of food in the freezer/cupboards that I need to do some serious clearing out!
FRIDAY: Pasta with HM pesto sauce, salad
SATURDAY: Tacos with veggie mince, HM guacamole, tomatoes, Cheddar cheezly, spring onions, lettuce + mixed green salad
SUNDAY: Soup in slow cooker with soup mix, potato, carrot, cabbage, onion, garlic, passata and curry paste, salad and HM bread (FIL is taking us out for a big pub lunch, which is why we'll be having a light tea!)
MONDAY: HM veggie burgers on HM buns, salad w/ HM creamy garlic dressing, HM oven chips
TUESDAY: Spaghetti puttanesca (spicy tomato & olive sauce), salad
WEDNESDAY: HM potato, aubergine & mushroom curry with HM chappatis, sliced tomato and cucumber
THURSDAY: Roasted Greek potatoes, roasted beetroot, HM dolmades (rice-stuffed vine leaves), Greek salad
Breakfast: Toast, cereal or HM granola, coffee & fruit or a fruit smoothie.
Lunch: DH has sandwich, fruit, peanuts or crisps or bombay mix etc. I usually have fruit and Tom Yam soup with rice noodles (five minutes to make) and try to stay away from the salty snacks!
Pudding: If we have anything, it's usually fruit & custard or a bit of chocolate.I want to move to theory. Everything works in theory.0 -

Pigpen we made Toad in the hole for the first time a few weeks ago, son has now declared it his favourite. I found the yorkie batter was more dense than shop bought and so it was more filling and better value iykwim.
