In terms of what I said in post above - what I mean is - batch cooking etc and some of the menus I have seen on this post are very low in vitamins and nutrients because they have been cooked for so long.
Things like spag bol, curry, beans on toast, jacket potatoes, sausage and mash, sheperds pie, tuna bakes, pasta - are all cheap, and lovely on occasion... but they give no energy as the nutrients/vitamins/minerals are lower in those foods.
So I'm in a connundrum as I want to save money but the only way to seemingly do that is cook food that is less nutritious (please, no one talk to me about the powers of mung beans!).
Save money, yes, have lower levels of energy for rumpy-pumpy, no
hi el,
this is one of the reasons i have recently bought a steamer from tescos, it helps keep the nutrients in the veg, so we get sufficient vitamins,

We try and eat a balanced varied diet with all the correct vitamins etc. As Im ill and have no immune system I have to eat well.
I was actually advised by my dietician, rhumy specialist and gastro consultant that good old fashioned meals (meat, spuds and 2 veg) have the best nutrients. I have to write all my food intake into a diary and I always get a big fat tick from mine, although sometimes my meals can be high in fat.
I would assume that a balanced diet would be protein, complex carbs and vegMaybe batch cooking would be fine but add extra vitamins or whatever nutrients you are lacking food wise into the recipe.
I agree that the foods you have stated are cheap but dont agree that they dont give you energy as they lack nutrients/vitamins etc.
Do you eat meat, fish poultry?
When we batch cook, we dont normally use the SC and we make things like:
Spagbol (cook fresh and not in the SC-then portion for freezer)
Chilli (as above)
Chicken Curry (as above)
Roast Dinners (cook fresh and portion into freezer containers)
Shepards Pie (cook fresh and portion for freezer)
Stews (we use the SC for this and portion for the freezer)To repeat what others have said, requires education, to challenge it,requires brains!FEB GC/DIESEL £200/4 WEEKS0 -

Hi All.
Just found this thread - don't know how i missed it.
Hubby and I are eating out of the freezer this week as we've prepared a 5 week meal plan but need to empty out before we start it!
So, this week:
Veg Curry and rice
Pork chops, taties and mixed veg
a veggie meal - I have loads of half empty packets, so will use up some of them and make sure i never buy them again!
Fish on Friday - He will have haddock, I will have boil in the bag cod with parsley sauce, with chips and veg.
Tonight he had chilli, I had b.i.t.b cod, and it was with rice and veg.
I promise we will start on better meals once we get the meal planner going..
Breakfast every morning is porridge, he will be on leftover lasagne for most lunches, and I take chicken sandwhiches to work with me.
