Hi Mrs EL!
It really doesn't take long - just a few extra minutes. The real trick is making more than you need every single time you make something (bar salads!).
For example, when I make houmous, I make enough for 3 portions (2 tins of chickpeas) then freeze 2 in ramikins. Or I make double the amount of soup in a massive pan, then I've got 8 or so portions to freeze plus my lunch for that day.
I've just started a fun thing with a girl at work (we are both healthy eating) where she takes lunch one day one week for us both, then I do it the next. Even though all my stuff sounds quite interesting - in reality, I still get bored of it and the way its presented... So having someone else to prepare something for you every so often gives me new ideas and is a fun thing to do! Just someone else's way of chopping things is really different and seems to taste much better!EagerLearner wrote:I must also admit (looks sheepishly at shoelaces) to, er, not quite knowing what receptacles I can use to, er, freeze in and which others to... microwave in... I know plates etc are ok - but the plastic ones are ok to freeze - what about heating? I know some of them are ok... No laughing please...
As for freezing - you can freeze and microwave food in plastic containers - pick up 5 or 6 for a £1 in your local pound shop - best to freeze things in one or two person portions - then you can pick one out for lunch for one or for tea for two. They get a bit buckled after lots of freezing and nuking but you can just buy more.
Sorry for the thread hijack P-P!!

Thanks Scottish - have been meal planning a few weeks now and also freezing, it's just the re-heating I'm not so sure about in case I melt the containers!
Anyhoo - this week we're eating yellow curry / chicken paprika / beef stroganoff that I batch-cooked weekend before last and Friday 13th. Plus cheap filled pasta from Lidl... bad... but so nice with parmesan and vine leaves - cheap too as a quicky meal!MFW #185

Well I can't believe another week has passed, where did it go?
My menu plan for this week is-
Pork Chops cabbage carrots cauli. bread & butter pudd.
Shepherds Pie made with root mash green beans & sweetcorn
HM Pasta Bake (freezer) & Salad
Jacket Potato HM Coleslaw & Bean Salad
Chicken Curry (freezer) & Rice
Roast Beef in gravy (freezer) cabbage carrots & peas

Hi, I haven't forgotton about the people who asked me to post recipes for last weeks meal plan - just been very very busy! Sorry, I'll try and do it this afternoon
EagerLearner - if your worried about melting containers, don't do what I did and put a plate on top of a tupperware in the microwave 'to save space'. The steam can't escape and they will fuse together.
This is more than a week's plan, so it'll keep us going until I next go shopping:
- Pea and Prawn Risotto
- Sweet Chilli Prawns, with noodles
- Acapulco Chicken
- Toad in the hole with mash and cabbage
- Enchiladas
- Chicken nuggets with corn cheese bake and mashed potato casserole
- Potato Skins with bacon and cheese
- Spanish Noodle Skillet (vegetarian)
And if I can't be bothered to go shopping then:
- Lentil burgers
- Spaghetti and Cheese
- Baked Lentils with cheeseWe must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0 -

OK
here goes for this week
Monday- Aubergine Pasta (from Freezer)
Tuesday - fish and ratatouille
Wednesday - 3 Bean chilli from freezer
Thursday - fish pie from freezer
Friday - I'll see how things are (that's pay day y'know!)
Saturday - Lasagne (use bolognese from freezer)
Sunday - something
(all this freezer stuff - can you tell it's the last week of the month?)
My trouble always be thinking of things for lunchtime -especially at the weekend. I'll be reading other plans with interest - so please have interesting lunches!!"You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me." - C.S. Lewis0 -
Mine is not very exciting this week as I am off to my parents for 4 days (get to have mum's cooking, woohoo!). I am also using up my freezer as I am expecting to have a food delivery on saturday (not spending a penny on food before this). So it is just Lasagne, roast chicken and chicken curry with the left over chook.
Have a good week and look forwards to finding some inspiration for next week when the cupboards are a bit fuller0 -
Our plan is:-
Sunday - HM pizza with wedges. (work weekends)
Monday - Roast Chicken Dinner with trimmings, veggies and yorkshires
Tuesday - HM Chicken & Leek pie, Potatoes, veggies
Wednesday - HM Chicken Curry with EF Rice/Spag bol with hidden veg for
DDs from freezer. HM Garlic Bread
Thursday - Toad in Hole, HM Chips, Peas & Sweetcorn
Friday - Scrambled egg, bacon, sausage beans & Toast
Maybe I will make it this month with my grocery challenge as I have all the ingredients for this stuff, so just need some extra milk, cheese and eggs.0
