  • I Have a house that had suffered from subsidence when I bought it and consequently paid £31000 in 1984 when similar houses close by were selling for £39000. I was wondering if anyone knows if this sort of problem would have been taken into account when the values were done in 1991. The house was put in band E and when I checked today it would appear it should have been placed in band C. Help anybody!
  • Evening
I live in a row of 5 terrace houses all houses are the same except that our is 2 bed room the others are all 3 .
we all have the same tax band of B except one of the end houses for some reason that is band A.

this is what i have worked out the value in 1991 as

A property located in Yorkshire & Humberside which was valued at £42000 in Q1 of 2002, would be worth approximately £30998 in Q4 of 1991. Band b starts at £40,000

would it be worth trying to get a reduction to band A.
oh yeah we have just sold the house £114995 moving in approx 4 weeks.
    could i still claim if/when i move out .

    thank JIM

    Hi,

I bought my property for £64k in 2001 with a Council Tax Band C. Using the Nationwide calculator indicates it should be Band B; I will be looking into this further to confirm this. However, I was wondering if I can claim for the 4 years I lived in this house even though I still own the property but have been letting it for the last couple of years?

Looking around I guess I can but if someone knows for sure it would be helpful.

    Many Thanks

    Hi Halloweenqueen.
I wondered if you got your refund and rebanding. Will you be on the programme on Friday?

I know we were conversing on my original post from Aug 2005 (now closed) which started this council tax discussion and led to Martin's programme.

So many have seen my original thread and subsequent articles by Martin and have had healthy rebates and rebanding.

I see JulieR is on the success stories too. She posted on the original thread.

The TV programme on Friday should be interesting.

    Keep appealing at www.voa.gov.uk .

No I have a face more suited to radio:eek:
I encouraged someone who had been knocked back to appeal as they wren't going to bother and they are now due for a rebate of £2000:beer:
  • I have just contacted my valuation officer and he informs me that the value banding table is just a rough guide. They band your property by floor space, bedrooms etc. Is this right?
  • I never got any interest on my rebate - is there anyway of changing that!!!!!!

I'm fairly new to this but I'd like to say how helpful it is to wade through this entire thread and note the post numbers of useful comments , case histories and advice for future reference. Maisies original thread (now closed) is also well worth reading in it's entirety . As Martin says "do your research".

We live in a row of 4 terraced houses. All the same number of rooms etc. The house at the end of our terrace is a band lower C then the rest of us on a band D ? Would there be a reason why they are on a lower band ?
We brought the house in August 2006 therefore are just within the 6 month period - do you think we can ask for a re-valuation ?

    Thanks.

Spread the word https://www.voa.gov.uk and check the banding.

    Best wishes.
