As far as i know you are unable to appeal against the banding of your old property as you do not have a current interest in it, however if your old property gets re banded you can claim it back for the time you were living there, but you will have to keep an eye on the VOA website to see if your old property gets re banded.0 -

I'd like to hope that this will all trigger a comprehensive revaluation so that everybody pays their fair share. We don't mind paying, we just want to pay the right amount!0 -

However if you have already followed the system, please use report them in the Council tax rebanding successes discussion.
Note from Martin: Thank you to all the contributers to the initial thread, which provided the genisis for the article. Much appreciated.
My Mother lived in sheltered accommodation in a bedsit - she was in the same Council Tax Band as my sister who lived around the corner in a 3 bedroomed detached house. Could we challenge what she has paid even though she now lives in a nursing home? Anyone know?? Thanks in anticipation if you read this and reply:money:0 -
There was due to be a revaluation that would take effect from April this year, but it was postponed. Otherwise it would have all been based on the value of a property at the 1st April 2005.0

The VOA site has crashed.

I wish I had know about this in my previous house, I have had a look through the forum but was not able to find out what I wanted to know. Are you able to claim a refund on a previous house. I moved 18 months ago and the previous house I was in should have been a band A, would I be able to claim this or is it too late now.0

Im afraid not if she is no longer the occupier. Most Bedsits should be band A's which is the lowest band. Its possible for the house and Bedsit to be in the same band as Band A ranges from 0 to 40000 in value at 1991 prices0 -
And can you claim interest on the money that you are owed based on the fact that it would otherwise have been in an interest earning account if the Council hadn't stolen it!?
er 29spots,
Backtrack 4 or 5 posts and you will find the answer.??:)"Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -
Does anyone know if this applies to tenants who are renting when the property is divided into flats? As these properties are valued as a single detached property with sitting tenants when selling & the council tax band would be in the band G-H bracket, however the council charge band A for each of these flats, which is a lot more than the actual value of the house! Would appreciate replies from people in the same position & if they have managed to challenge their council about this! Thanks.0
