Im sure this must have been answered previously in this long thread so apologies in first if it has - ive had a quick look thru but couldnt find the answer so here goes:

Are the Valuation Bands in martins article reffering to England only? (Im in scotland) worked out the value of my house in 91 and using those figures in the article i should be Band B no BAnd D - im thinking the valutaions for bands woudl be less in Scotland as house prices are generally lower?
  • Having spoken to my friend, she advises me that she thinks her house, despite them extending it, will NOT be rebanded until they sell it. Would this be the case even if I pursued my own banding and drew attention to it? She also tells me to keep it quite quiet if we are going ahead because other people may get put up a band. How likely is this to happen? (i.e. in my arguing that we should be a lower band because other people in similar nearby farmhouses are....)

  • ps she is band E, and she paid only 62k for hers in 1997! (bearing in mind the minimum for band E was 88k in 1991)

I spoke to the local assessor this morning (such a lovely, friendly chap) and he explained about the differences between Scotland and England - nevertheless, he is going to look into my claim and write out to me

He told me that he is thinking about ringing in sick on Monday morning (he thinks he might be busy following the programme tomorrow night) :rotfl:
  • frugallass, could you explain the differences between England and Scotland to me? Were you within your 6 months of moving in?
  • Hi all

Sorry if this question has already been asked, but does anyone know if houses built after 1991 are placed into bands as per the original sale price or can you still re-vlaue them to a 1991 price equivalent?

Houses built after 1991 are valued as to what they would/might have been if around and sold in 1991.

  • Anyone from Scotland PLEASE look here:

If this had been on the main article then I would not have spent so much time over this. Have just spoken to the assessor who was very helpful but is getting a number of calls from people who aren't aware that the banding valuation limits are different in Scotland. I thought to be band E my home must be worth at least 88k in 1991, in actual fact it's only 58k.

Much as I value this site I think it's imperative that this information gets added to the article. The article speaks much about Scotland and England and Wales - it would be helpful for Scottish people to see the bands, so they don't get their hopes up.

Who should I contact or what forum should I post to to suggest this?
  • Hi - Does anyone know whether its possible to make claim for a house previously lived in? Our current house is a newbuild - so I guess I have no case there as it was surveyed and properly valued, but i lived in my previous house for 8 years and believe i should have been in band C rather than D.

    Thanks
