If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Yes I remember this, my mother and my grandmother used to make this with bacon and onions and a few fresh herbs. They used to roll it in a piece of cloth and put in a pan of boiling water for a couple of hours and serve with veggies and pease pudding! delicious!! (never made one myself, maybe I should!):D
I'm not sure if I am right but I have a feeling they would do it with dates in for a sweet pudding too!
  • Was catching up on last week's hairy bikers meals on wheels where they had a bacon suet pudding and made me think of the rasher pudding my nan used to make when I was little - my sister loved it, I wasn't so much of a fan but pregnancy hormones have me craving it now so going to try the baked bacon roll. I'm loving the idea of adding stuffing to it - must stop drooling now or the keys will stop working :)

I've never thought of doing it as an envelope sort of thing. I usually do mine in much the same way as you'd make a swiss roll or roly poly. Lots of layers then and it doesn't have the same tendency to crack open.

Either way, it's a cheap, tasty and filling meal :)
