The dumpling mix should be fine, red-boxer - I've never used it but I'd guess it's just a mix of flour, suet and maybe some seasoning, which is what you'd use to make suet pastry anyway.

I've now changed my own meal plan for next week to fit in a bacon suet roll. I never thought I'd say these words, but roll on next Monday! :o:D

Thanks CCP, i will try it out maybe tomorrow. I made the corned beef and potato from a recipe on OS yesterday, and it was a success, hope this bacon pudding goes down well too.

Hi. I'm thinking I might do mine with mince and onions and bake it. I seem to recall my mum giving me something similar when I was younger that she got from Marks and Sparks. Loved it. If I get a chance I'll do it over the week end and post back with my results :)

Just in to print out the recipe. :)

The suet arrived in last weeks shop and tomorrow is the day! :D This will be the last pre-production post. Will try and get in tomorrow to say how it went, possibly with photo.

    Let the countdown begin :rotfl:

One of my favourite meals & you need such a small amount of minced meat, for 2 people I use 1lb mince beef, make cottage pie, roly poly & a chilli. I'm going to try the bacon one. Baked suet pud with roast is wonderful.
The more rustic the better, like the ad where the guy makes that gorgeous looking pie, think it may be a butter ad.

Ooh yes, we definitely need a picture. :D

Oh yeah - don't worry if it doesn't look like mine. That was my first one - I've made a few since and I cannot for the life of me work out how I got it to look so neat. :p
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

    Well.

LOL I would say successful, if somewhat different :D First the pastry was too dry then too wet etc etc until I thought it was just right. I rolled it out, and although it seemed dry enough it kept sticking on the bottom as I rolled. I did have what I thought was quite a bit of flour under it too shrug.gif

Anyhoooo......I just kept throwing flour under it as I rolled it up, worked out in the end. Now, all the cracking - I think it was a combination of rolling the pastry too thin and adding too much filling together. I used fried off lardons and onion plus added some leftover stuffing I had. It received a definite thumbs up from my BH and I found it quite tasty too and am already thinking of different combos I could try for the filling.

Without further ado, may I present my (baked) Bacon Roll---->

That looks gorgeous - could you send me a slice, please? ;)

I personally wouldn't worry about it cracking because of an abundance of filling - better that than having too little, imo! :)
