Is it the fermipan yeast you buy, Swan? It doesn't say its ok for BMs, but the other 500g pack says you cant use for BMs. That must work out cheaper than the sachets I have bought, in the long run.

sorry to be a pest, but is it easly blend yeast or do yu have to start it off in water+sugar? I find it really difficult to convert between all the different types of yeast when the recipe generally only gives one. Assuming all BM yeasts are easy blend?

yes it's the Fermipan & it's exactly like the instant action Dove's Farm etc
the DCL one is the kind that's in little spheres

the pack works out cheaper, but the carriage charge is £6.50, which means it would cost £10
but that charge covers up to 28Kg, so you could order flour or any of the other products on the site to spread the cost

their flours aren't cheap, but are very, very, good

I've looked for other sources of the Fermipan, but haven't been able to find one that works out any cheaper
mind you, I haven't looked in a while, maybe someone else will know of a better source if you only want the yeast?

I would like the french flour too. That is a steep delivery cost! I still want it, but if you find out about any other yeast like it that is cheaper to get hold of, keep me informed:)

    I certainly will :)

to make the carriage charge worthwhile, I treated us to a selection of their other flours & also some buttermilk powder, which is great stuff but really hard to get hold of in domestic quantities in the UK

I rationalise it by equating it to bus fares/petrol + time spent travelling & in a shop ;)

    it's 500g so £3.70 for delivery, £7.53 total

I can't remember how much the 150g 100g packs of Dove's Farm cost to do a comparison, I'll see if I can price check it

I wonder if a Health Food store could order it in? that would save a delivery charge

EDIT ... 99p for 100g of Dove's Farm yeast at Tesco, so it would work out a little cheaper

EDIT EDIT ... you'd have to be confident of getting through it all

I've had my current pack in the freezer for more than a year & it's still absolutely fine (I've not been baking as much as usual, looong story) I think the trick is to make sure it's tightly sealed so no moisture can get in, hence my bag having a Klippit on it & also being inside a Lock&Lock

Forgive my one million questions, but what is buttermilk powder used for?:o

Excellent! I will actually find out if any of the shops near me store it. If not, will ask them if they will :T
