  • Well turns out the Vendor's solicitor was off and away in some kind of fairy land where everything was rosy and he didn't have to do anything. Will be handing over signed contracts to our solicitor in the morning (she's now finally able to prepare them) but there's still the issue that when we send the deposit tomorrow it might not appear until Monday.

We COULD hand our notice in to our letting agent tomorrow even if the exchange doesn't happen until Monday but it just seems like too big a risk :(

I complete tomorrow :) just wanted to share that! It will be exactly 12 weeks since the offer was accepted!

We paid our deposit using faster payments. 10k limit per day but it meant I could make one payment in the evening after work and one first thing the next morning so the solicitors had the full amount needed for the 10% deposit within 2 hours of making the second payment.
  • We exchanged at the middle of August with completion next Friday :D
  • I'm pretty depressed at the moment. My wife and I found the perfect house, at a price lower than what we expected to pay, in what was our No. 1 location. We viewed it the Saturday, viewed again on the Sunday and offered before 10am on the Monday at the fixed asking price (buying in Scotland). Despite having told the owners we would be making an offer, someone else got their offer in half an hour before us. Due to poor communication from the seller's solicitor, it was made out that our offer came in 6 hours after the other. Having spoken to the seller on the Monday evening, this is what I pieced together.

The kicker though is that he and his wife wanted to sell the house to us. They told us that, and when he knew both offers had come in before 10am on a Monday morning, he went back to his solicitor to see if he could change his mind. Unfortunately he was advised he couldn't, and now, a few weeks later, I'm getting the impression the sale will not fall through, despite me really wishing it would.

Lost a lot of motivation searching for our perfect home, since we found it, had it in our hands, with both us wanting to buy and the seller wanting to sell it to us, and then didn't have our offer accepted. :(
  • That's bad luck, Megalomaniac. I'm not sure how I'd make myself feel better about that situation, other than hoping that something just as good - if not better - came along.
  • Hopefully completing tomorrow (finally managed to exchange Tuesday when Vendors solicitor FINALLY got all the confirmations he needed, turns out there was no way exchange could have happened Friday and shouldn't have been agreed to). Oh that was fun. Fingers tightly crossed for tomorrow

  • Got the phonecall from my solicitor yesterday with my completion date, 28th of October :) The date I was expecting which is good. Been waiting since February for this! Have been to see it once mid build and to also see the spark and sort out some extras.

I've just over two weeks off work to settle in and get the kitchen & hallway floor tiled.

It's great to have a completion date to work to now so I can arrange delivery of appliances, furniture etc.
