NualaBuala, try this site for guidance and info, you don't have to join, but I did and it really helped to get the info together for my DS1s DLA claim.

I know yours is not DLA, but they have advice on medicals and appeals for all Disability related claims, (ESA, IB).

    Hope this helps

That sounds like a good site to investigate. It is easy for the unwary to "fall into traps" - and I've avoided doing that myself wayback because I'd read the info/knew the ropes.

  • Morning all

Have not had chance to get on here since the beginning of the month so have lots of catching up to do. All of the snow has now gone and no ice either today. Did not get snowed in but felt really pleased that the freezer and cupboards were stocked up and I had alternative cooking methods should we loose power/gas. Just need to sort out another torch.

Will try to catch up with everyones news today but will be dipping in and out as I am planning on getting the christmas shopping finished.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

Catz - thanks for the muffin recipe. I may try those as they look quite plain and I am not a big sweet lover.

    Contrats to Charlies Aunt.

I also have some news...as you know I have been renovating the whole house and yesterday the blokey came to quote for the cellar. He has done work for me before so I know I am not going to get another "carpenter!" The thing is he is really hard to pin down (I waited 3 months for him to plaster a wall) and he has said he can do the cellar next week!!! This means I need to find a significant amount of cash within 7 day and just before christmas, cash I dont have right now. Now one of my friends works abroad and has more money than you can shake a stick at, and has offered to lend me the money. He knows without a shadow of doubt I will pay it back asap. But I am torn. I have never borrowed from a friend before and it doesnt seem to be sitting too well (which is why I would throw every spare bit of cash at him) and am in two minds what to do. Do I finally have all the major works finished on the house? Or do I wait for another year or so for the builder to get his act together (at least a year) and I have saved up all the pennies?? I can borrow the money from a bank but he said why do that when you can pay me back interest free? There are also no strings attached (one thing I definitely checked out and we have been friends too long) to the loan of the money and I can repay it comfortably. I need to extra room and it would also mean I could then remortgage and get off this dreadful fixed rate of interest!

    Any advice would be appreciated.

In those circumstances - and, provided you are quite sure that no problems will occur to your income to prevent you paying back your friend as you plan to.

    Then - go for it.

If there are any doubts re your income/ability to do so then don't.

So - thats my overall take - in your situation (provided the income is safe enough) then do so.

It would get that job out of the way and ensure you arent at risk of taking on someone you dont know to do the job and finding you picked a cowboy.

besides - "Mr Good Guy Worker" may have something happen to him that in a years time he wont be available and then you have to find one again......so grab him now whilst hes free/still doing that type of work.

EDIT: quick check - what do you mean by "doing the cellar" and roughly how much will it cost? I assume you mean you are planning to convert the cellar into a usable room?
