Perhaps it might be interesting in the New Year to set up a new challenge i.e. Every week we name one food item that we all have to manage without for 7 days , i.e. milk or bread or butter, cheese, egg, etc. I suspect that even for OS'ers, doing without some of these items might be a little difficult. ( I can just see my OH's face if I told him he had to spend 7 days with no milk in his tea or forego his usual cooked breakfast :rotfl::eek::eek:)
Hmmm..,,. - and a starter for 10:
- Milk = cows milk, rice milk, nut milk
- Bread = make your own. Could substitute potato or oatmeal flakes for some of the flour. In desperation - potato cakes here we come...
- Cheese = possible to make own soft cheese if theres enough milk
- Eggs = I could always go off and consult my books for substitutes for eggs
Reet....off to take another peep-in at the Battle Royal going on across t'Internet re free speech.....an awful lot of twittering...:rotfl:;)0 -
In about 10 or so weeks i'l be making my own milk :rotfl:0

Hello everyone,
Had a lovely afternoon yesterday at my primary school's xmas fayre. Exactly the same as it always has been, only everything has shrunk...!The kids were so sweet, carol singing, and I had a nice singalong too.
Got home and decorated the tree, and in 24 hours the kitten still hasn't destroyed it!
Went out for our posh xmas do last night, was a good laugh and I won a door stop in the raffle....! Might make a nice pressie for someone, not sure who though.
Picked up my free choccies from waitrose today (voucher in Telegraph), could/should give them as a pressie but I expect we'll eat them tonight...In today's Telegraph there was a £5 voucher for the Body Shop, so bought it again today. I don't normally buy newspapers but thought it would be a nice treat as we've had a lazy/hungover day today....! Having said that, I've spent all afternoon working, so I've actually been quite good.
Had an enormous full english brunch today and still full so no plans for dinner yet! Could do with something to warm me up...maybe I'll have my 20th cup of tea for today! :rotfl:

During the last recession, I almost lost my home,
The bailiffs were persecuting me, I was geting bin bags full of red bills, the phone rang all day and half the night, they were ringing me and OH at work.
Cheques for food were bouncing and I was taking stuff to the pawn shop. I had so little food in the house, was walking 3 miles to work and 3 miles back. It was a nightmare!!! utterly.
I will eat straw and shiver before I go back there.
A freind of mine lost her home and the family ended up in a dingy bed and breakfast with one bed for them all, a bare lightbulb and no curtains.
The day of reckoning can be very, very harsh.
Aww hun..i'm sorry...theres me wittering on about shopping and how they made mistakes...put its into perspective...
Its awful how at christmas people feel they have to have the perfect gift, food, drink etc...the day of reckoning is coming and it will be harsh..but sometimes some folks need a wake-up call...

I am a bit of a cheerleader for those that feel the moneysaving is getting them down a bit or it's all a bit too much effort. It isn't ...it is all worth it, every last moneyscraping second of it.
Things today have the same feel about them as they did back then and I think there may be some grief ahead.
I guess many of us on here either know from our own experience or have had family go through tough times, whatever the reason we have made the choice to 'get tough' when going gets tough.
As mardatha said the other day,' we will survive', for those on here and many like us I feel we at least stand a good chance.0 -
omg I just googled twinks as I wanted to find the recipe

Today I finally had some energy to start getting this tip of a house that I live in into some sort of order. Think 'How Clean is Your House' and that is almost the state we're in! Due to feeling so tired and not up to much these last 3 months I have finally started to feel like I can get something done. Taking it easy though and having a rest after about half and hour and a drink which does mean frequent trips to the loo but do not want to leave everything to the last minute as we did when I had DD1.
I have also today listed 27 items on ebay as it was a free listings day. Hopefully they will sell.
This week I sold a Toy Story Mrs Potato Head for £29.98. I'm not complaining as it's money in my pocket (well to pay off credit card) but the silly thing is I paid £9.99 for it. Was meant to be a prezzie for niece but someone else got her one and I had lost the receipt so thought I would see if I could at least get my money back. Worked out well in the end with nearly a £20 profit!
Big hugs to everyone who needs them.
Has anyone heard from Annie. Since she shared her news she's not been on here and I hope that everything is alright.'Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.'
Proud Mummy to two gorgeous miracles.:j0 -
