All those funny little words remind me of our DD. When she was little she used to love to eat tarnies (sultanas) and liked rinnies (earrings). My sister is still known as Henny, as DD couldn't manage 'Helen'.
For her first ever school dinner she had raffles and frights. (The raffles she described as like little pillows, so we translated this as ravioli, but we had laughed too much and she never got round to describing the frights. And she doesn't remember what they were now, about 23 years later! so we never solved that mystery)
Even as she grew up she still struggled with any words that have 'n' and 'l' in combination. Aged 18 in 2000, she was working in McD whilst at college, and her colleagues discovered that it was great fun to get her to have to use the word 'vanilla' when customers were deciding which ice cream flavour to have. Not to mention getting her to say the word 'millennium'. Fortunately she could see the funny side too.0 -
My Ds2, around a year ago, when we were planning DS1's birthday tea at home, kept saying, "We'll lay it out in the kitchen, we'll have a beef" " No son, we're vegetarian!" " No mum, a beef, it will be lovely!" Took me about an hour to figure out he meant a buffet :rotfl: So now we no longer do buffet food, we have a beef - its the only time on our house we eat meat! It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

My sons GF got fired today...for not wearing Make up:mad:
oh and for being 10 mins late 5 weeks ago! (train delay)
She is a trainee hairdresser, wore no makeup at the first group interview, none at the shop interview and doesn't mention it in her contract and shes been there 2 months.
She has lovely clear skin and only wears it if out for an evening.
They gave her a mascara and lipstick 2 weeks ago and told her to wear it, she explained she doesn't wear make up.
Today she got told she they couldn't believe she was happy with what she saw in the mirror in the morning:mad::eek:
Poor girl has been in floods of tears and now is convinced she is too ugly to leave the house. She had a lot of cutting comments made.
Its part of a large ish chain with a small HR department, but she doesn't want to make a fuss (her parents told her not to because of a reference) but I'm seething.
She's not the most confident of people anyway and this has really hurt her. She is a very kind person who would do anything for anyone.
She has lovely clear skin, size 12, trendy dresser and a snazzy haircut. She looks great.
And this leaves just my son's income for both of them, and with the current climate it will be difficult to get another job with them as the last reference.
DS is on NMW and paying back a career development loan and winter bills just starting too.
But they will get through it, as you do.
Just wish I could help, can't financially, but maybe help with job hunting, not that she feels like it at the moment.
Any ideas what I can say/do to make her feel better about herself?0 -
Tell her any halfwit can be a sheep !!0

Thats what my OH said when i told him what she said! Nope the electrics have never been tested since we've been here and it needs fully rewiring.
We've got the old type fuse box with the really thin wires prob form the 50/60's.

Thats shocking annie123, the cheeky gets. i'd sue the employers for discirmination.
Well just threw another bag of csrp out, slowly but surely i will get this house sorted out.0 -
Just spoke to landlady, she wants us to pay half towards getting the boiler serviced and under contract with british gas, as her landlord safety certifcate is due for renewal. She kept "you know its been a while since i put the rent up". Yet the house is a wreck and is steadily falling apart so ne and OH are not impressed.
Cheeky minx! its the landlords responsibility to maintain the gas appliances (such as boilers) in the property. Don't part with a penny!
If she hints at putting the rent up - perhaps you could counter her by giving a list of repairs that need doing?
You could try and speak to out local Environmental Health Department if she isn't maintaining the house to a reasonable standard - although any complaints to Environmental Health regarding the state of the property tend to end in the landlord giving the tenant notice.:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

Kezlou - I would refuse to pay - we had a window put in by stray bullets in our last house - letting agents said tough its your responsibility, called LL direct and explained that the window in question was going to cost over £1500 to replace glass and that if I was responsible I would put the cheapest glass possible - LL was horrified - their point being it was in their interest to ensure the repair was done partly to protect themselves from any claims arising as a result but also to maintain the value of their property.
Annie123 - maybe a few friends could visit the salon - without saying they know GF, then comment on how tarty the staff all look and leave without having any work done??
Or if its a training position - i would contact the course provider - they will not be happy and could remove the salon from it list, which will cost the salon.0 -
Annie123 that is awful - tell her to take no notice. What a cruel bunch of people they must be. Better off out of there but see your point about finding another job.
Did you folks watch Sue and Giles do the Good Life on BBC2 tonight... it was ace... thread on main OS board.
Well I am roasting in bed tonight... I can't believe that the few measures I have taken to prep the house for cold, and having the oven on for 2 hours (batch cooking) has made the house so hot. I might need to open another window0 -
evening all, its freezing tonight, icy gale force winds and crazy torrential rain.
Spent part of my day unblocking the drains outside, got rid of loads of gunk but still blocked. OH said he's going to have a go tomorrow. Its pitch black outside so can't do it now.
Been sorting stuff out in the house all day. hasn't been done for the past seven months. I know its really bad, but since i broke my knee cap i just couldn't do much.
So i sent OH with a car full of junk, old chairs, broken tables and general carp. House feels so much cleaner.
Had some news today, we might be moving house, not sure when, but i on a mass decluttering session.
So will have to see what happens.
Glad to see you back greent xx
Kezlou thats awful.
My landlord allows agents to run ours hardly see landlord direct.
we have gas safety check of boilier annually.
It was done last month does need replacing but is safe and serviced.
We have electrical check on applainces once a year.
oter week heating wasent working we had faulty dial man came out same day as I called but have emergancy out of hours numbers for all the agents contracters.Hubby said last weeks fault would of cost us 70quid .
The reason why people rent is so they dont pay for essential repairs.
We have had to replace faulty flooring in bathroom and kitchen ourselves as landlord felt it was unsightly but still safe.
we had badly fitting lino in bathroom tat kept rising up creating a slip hazard and the several broken tiles in kitchen I felt were unhygenic so layed cheap vinlyl tiles.
We just replaced cheap beige carpet in lounge and hall with laminate ourselves as 6years here and 2kids has taken its toll but I think fact it was cheap white carpet and general wear and tear landlord should have replaced.
I know so many people who privatly rent who have problems.
people afraid to complain as given notice.
Plus to then rent theres
70admin fee to agents
credit check and references
first months rent upfront
plus huge deposit we paid 900 on 3bed house and would be crossover in getting deposit back and putting deposit on new place not to mention moving costs its one of reasons we stayed put.
My 2mates had to take thier landlord to small claims court to get their deposit back was awful.
I think some lanlords just care about money and want the rent to cover morgage costs and spend next to nothing on maintaining property makes me so cross.
Lindyloo-might have to get myself down tesco and bulk buy as never seen wipes that cheap hubby was like ahh well they not the best but for 17p can live with them as have ababy and another on way 17.70get me 100packs and dare say some strange looks!
I be known as the crazy wetwipe lady!
Had relaxing night in bed watching tv.
Hubby fell asleep at 8pm bless him.
Both kids fast asleep.
off to sleep myself.

Kezlou if she tries putting the rent up tell her you are getting the fair rents people in to do a survey. I think they are part of the council. We had them come to a house we rented .0
