Ordered my first ever load of stuff from Approved Foods today! exciting - can't wait to get it :D
Feeling stressed at the mo, all a bit much and body starting to rebel - my skin is disgusting and I never usually get spots :( I HATE HATE HATE the dark evenings, makes me so grumpy.
Got a bad back, been going on for ages but can't afford to go to the physio. Guess I'll have to try my GP but last time I went about my back there was a 12 week waiting list - luckily back then I had private healthcare through work. Getting me down though as stops me sleeping well.
Anyway, that's enough complaining from me, on the bright side I made a huge vat of veg soup using mostly manky-looking leftover veg and chicken stock made from frozen chicken bones. That's quite a few lunches sorted. Also made a lovely veg and sausage casserole.
Made BlackSaturn's fruit cobbler a few times lately - love it :)
DH has been poorly the last few days - i knew he was ill when he turned down a trip to the local beer festival!

Hope you're all ok, keep warm and dry :)

    Nuala,

You're right to listen to you body whatever the physio says. I've found them great after I ended up needing them a year ago. ...but..

It seems that the bottom line is whatever professionals tell us only we know our own bodies... I'm sure we all struggle to learn the art of pacing ourselves in this mad world we live in.

    Ain't that the truth....

ie that WE are the ones who know our own bodies best.

This is definitely my experience - with the ailments that I have to deal with myself (MUCH more minor than those of many on here I know...).

Feeling pretty hopeful personally now about a (complementary) therapist I am currently seeing about a couple of minor issues - as she turned round to me and said "Your issues are coming from THAT area". Thats not where I am feeling the problems - but I know full well that that is exactly where they are coming from - so full marks to her for spotting that:T But this is rare - very rare indeed - I know and I certainly agree that WE ourselves are the people best placed to know what is going on.

Yeah, I always find the 'what if' is so much harder to deal with than the actual circumstances that you may or may not find yourself in.

Hopefully you'll know real soon so the process of dealing with it can begin rather than worrying. Better still, I hope your family is over looked at this unsettling time.

    Aint that the truth too?

It IS unsettling to know an axe is swinging overhead and wondering if/when/etc it will fall. Once it HAS fallen - then you know what you are dealing with and can "commence battle" to deal with it.
  • Not sure what emoticon to use here....I've resigned from my job, some of you may remember that a year or so ago I was having a really tough time. I can't say much more as its a work in progress but I am very very relieved to have resigned. I've got three months notice which I've said I'll work - there are no jobs in my work area so I doubt anything will come up but we have no debts and little outgoings at the moment. It's not a great long term position but for now we'll survive, and sometimes, situations aren't worth the heartache.

    Well, it's my 57th tomorrow.

Just had a phone call off my elder grand daughter to say that she and my DIL have baked me a Victoria sponge cake, so nan, don't bother to buy one tomorrow for when we come around to yours. :D

DH and I, are nearly at the end of doing the loft insulation and trips to the tip at the moment, so was going to buy a cake. No time to bake as boxes and black bags all over the house.

So cute, my babies....But DIL hastened to add that elder GD insisted on some white chocolate on the cake as well. The smaller one was going nanna, nanna in the background, wanting to chat as well. Both girls so cute and so much loved...And DIL coming home after a hard day's work in the city and still baking for my birthday. Thanks so much hon.:A

Sometimes, you do what you have to do, for your own health or for your own sanity.

Best of luck to you honey, I have been in similar situations myself.

    Take care ((((hugs)))

Well done Piglet - its not easy to walk away from a job when you have nothing to go to, but sometimes its the better option.

I've done it and altho it wasn't easy, I managed and my quality of life improved enormously!

Hope they don't make you work your notice but put you on garden leave instead :D
  • Talking about being skint. Today I had to pay £24 for 3 nights after school, £20 petrol (so I can get to work) and £7 for daughters karate and gym for me. Petrol is on the rise again (£1.15 here) the after school club is suffering as people have lost jobs etc. Realised today in work that all the clothes I had on (apart from underwear) was from charity shops/car boot. I had leftovers for my dinner and took own drinks to the gym.

What happens when you have cut back all you can, shop for food as cheap as you can and meal plan etc, buy clothes/shoes from charity shops/carboots, turn heating off etec etc and your still skint?

Thank god we can come on here and get support from other people in the same boat. Ive noticed people in work dont talk about being skint until I say Im wearing something from a carboot or they admire my home made dinner. When I say its because I carnt afford stuff it all comes pouring out about how overdrawn they are or how they are worried about their jobs. Ive become a sort of thrift guru in my office now.

God rambled a bit there. Time for bed methinks. Elecy blanky should have heated the bed up nicely.:T
I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round

Ahh the responsability of being thrift guru:rotfl:Must be nice when they get useful advice try teach my mam when she moans about being broke but thrift escapes her.

I think so many people in similar position.
especially when you take into account childcare costs and commuting. Our after school club not actually used but 3.15-5.30 is 7pounds a day per child.

Im such a numpty forgot we had one until you mentioned it .
My scan appointment was 3.15 but luckily managed to change asked another mum if she could pick daughter up as had her child a few times but she said no.

When I worked fulltime nursury fees and petrol swallowed up a lot of my salary.

piglet I resigned from job as hated it and was so stressed my family and marriage were suffering although its been huge adjustment we get by and had another little princess and another on way to keep me busy, you never know whats round corner in life one door closes another one opens.

Dont know whats wrong with me nov cold depressing dark month and im looking on optimistic side of life.:D

I personally havent brought any new shoes or clothes this year they all been boot sale/ebay finds.
The girls have had very few new clothes and not sure of huubys had much maybe few shirts for work thats about it.Ahh new trousers as he split his.

Lindyloo-eldests cost fortune had growth spurt recently so needed lots of new clothes got tonnes at nct nearly new sale and she was so happy and few cheapy bits from primarnie.
As for shoes both girls outgrown their shoes.
This is first time I been forced to buy 2nd hand kids shoes.
I got them measured then looked on ebay got daughter some startright patent school shoes for 1.99. as it happens in last month she says they tight and shes scuffed them on scool trip badly makes me glad dident spend 35quid on them new.

The babys luckily inherited lots from loft and some carboot finds.
shoe wise eldest must have ad bigger feet so got her first walking shoes from carboot clarks ones look cute and pair from next sale but both now tigt so getting them both measured again and may buy 2nd hand again if bargain comes up in good condition.

My eldest does couple of clubs but I like her to have hobbies as its exercise and socialising for her,she does not get many treats throughout year or had much for birthdays /xmas last few years so its my one luxury she would prefer to do gym then have lots of fancy toys or clothes.

Reading what some mums buy their kids made me feel bit bad that cant afford half of what they spend not quite sure how they manage it as most stay at home mums but then I think dont be silly sometimes we do too much when its the simpler cheaper things that keep kids happy and they dont need it all. I guess im lucky at 4half shes not really asked for expensive gadgets and usually happy with whatever she gets.

BB -hope you feel better soon, do nhs not have physio or is waiting list huge. All I can suggest is nice hot bath, hot water bottle, those heat patches are good and inbuprohen.
Im suffering bad back with this pregnanacy already and not even that huge yet.

parsonswife thats such a lovley story about the cakes.

So much for my early night in daytime could quite happily sleep then im restless at night.
Had to put daughter to bed as hubby fell asleep about 7 hes happily snoring away.

watched kirstys homemade home interesting but not as os as it seems as did not reviwal cost of materials or cost of help given to perfect these skills and got impression family were far from skint im sure shabby chic thread on here better.
Find carboots cheapest place for home stuff.
Wish I could crochet and make curtains.

Then watched victorian shops on bbc and really enjoyed it.
made me think back to being a kid and remembering how good the market was , how busy as minors used to come down valley and and how many indepdant shops town had.
really sad how it its now its just coffee shops, charity shops, banks even blooming sell your gold shop. The last greengrocers has shut just iceland, farmfoods and tesco metro within towncentre, out of town waitrose. Think theres maybe one butcher, fishmongers shut, the main town baker shut and been taken over but not as nifce as whats there before and greggs does not compare to decent indendant baker.

Was thinking tonight how I could go further os and hopefully save more money.

I need to make most of our biscuits and cakes and stop buying them in. I love baking but its finding the time but think I need to make the time.

Wish hubby liked my bread but will keep trying to convert him.

Need to get back into batchcooking more as since being pregnant felt quite sick and done less then normally would plus the 13month year old is very demanding.

Going to make huge lots of pizza dough tommorow and freeze it.
Thinking could make pastry and freeze it save me time.
Definatly want to do more warming stews and soups to warm up family .
Got so much preserving to do too with all that free foraged fruit.

going to scale down farmfoods shop this month and buy more grocery/fresh as need to run freezer down for xmas meats.

I could shop round more but its finding the time.
try to avoid taking both kids and hubby tends to only have patiance for one shop at a time. Thinking he could drop me off and pick me up and I can do really good shop then.
