I feel for you with SAD but hopefully the anti-D at a higher dose is helping. Have you ever tried Vitamin D - was told it is good for depression in general. Actually, it seems to be one of those things recommended for lots of things and apparently we don't have enough since we don't get much sun. I take it when I remember (which is not often) and I think it might have helped me with my on and off depression. Take good care of yourself. x
I'm not sure how long I microwaved the frozen baked spuds for - I cooked 3 from frozen and I guess it was around 7/8 minutes but I turned them 3 or 4 times. They were lovely and fluffy inside0 -

Be shame if milk when up as both icelands and lidls 4pinters are 1.09 now.
Kidcat hope plumbers round soon and kiddies better.
my landlords can be rubbish at some things but its mostly managed by agents so have in hours no and out of hours list of people to ring if things gone wrong, if its been plumbing they usually been here same day.
I did call private plumber for our washing machine and we had private electrician because hubby decided to put shelp up and drill into mains!Does make me realise how lucky we are in someways to rent and not worry about these things.
alec eiffel-hope your hubby gets to keep jobs, seems like jobs going everywhere especially. in local councils. Local bbc news said wiltshire council hit by 150redundancies, felt quite sad as its based in quite arural area where towns like trowbridge/melksham and warminster already suffered effects of private recession with loss of retail jobs in the town.

my dh came back from an asthma checkup and said that he had had the flu jab. Well that is his choice but tbh it has never seemed to badly affect him. I won`t be going for one in the future as I am minimalist doc intervention.
I feel good today. Did a lot of research and took the most appropriate homeopathic remedy (I am qualified ) and had the best nights sleep in a long time, only to wake up with that horrible feeling of swallowing over razor blades gone and no pain, just a bit of a sensation to remind me not to eat hard toast and nuts for a while. Its amazing how stress can be so very sneaky, I mean you can be stressed and not know it, then looking back you can see that lots of things added up to stress and suddenly the body says `stop`0 -

Thanks for the tip. I'll look out for some of those next time I'm in the market or haberdashers.
All this talk of shoes. Shoes are the bane of my life! I have duck feet (though thankfully not webbed!) They are broad at the ends and narrow at the heel, so court shoes normally don't stay on unless I wander around with my toes curled under...
When I was a kid, finding school shoes was a nightmare. My father got so fed up when shopping for my secondary school pair that, after the fourth shop, he got me the first pair that fit. They were identical in style to the pair I wore to start school when I was five & I was one of only two girls in the whole of our year with round-toed shoes (the other is one of my best friends.) We were both picked on roundly through most of secondary school. Though to be fair, it was probably more to do with being individuals than wearing the wrong type of shoes!
Even today, I swear by Duo and Gabor, especially Duo! They aren't cheap but I buy in the sale and I wear all my footwear until it literally falls apart, so it's still cost effective! I tend to only own one of each kind of footwear. Emelda Marcos I am not!0 -
Kittie, I think ME is caused by stress. Am sure that caused mine, along with too many years on nightshift trying to do everything without enough sleep or good food. Stress is a killer.0

DD16 has had her phone stolen at school, am furious, that schools attitude is that they would not even look for it had they simply called it when she found it was gone they would have located it - she has to carry her phone as she collects youngest DD from school for me and then I let her know where I will collect her from - which varies depending how bad a day DS6 has had. Its gonna cost money to replace etc too but more worrying is that like all teenagers she has personal photos, messages etc on her handset which some little thief now has access to.0

yes it absolutely is a killer and so many things can cause stress. Meditation is the one thing to help besides us giving the body all the nutrients it needs. No wonder the last one left in a long term couple can often die within a year because of the grief. The chap acros the road had a heart attack caused by stress brought on by someone else. Its all about actions and consequences and the effects on other people
I believe that stress damages the immune system, which is probably the most important system in the body. Over exercising is a great stressor too, when you just have to have that endorphin high.0 -
Well, I did use the Clarks website for shoes for my daughter. Did not have her size but went for the size above and ordered boot style shoes with straps above the ankle. Now I have to wait to have them delivered to store and see if they fit. Got my fingers crossed otherwise she'll have to live in trainers all winter.
I'm off to run my parents evening at school. I have 40 parents to see over two nights and it is exhausting. The worst part is that it just takes one parent to be late and that throws the whole system out the window. I have had to be really harsh and if someone does not come to their appoitment at the given time (and there is no reason for this - some parents are lovely and will ring to say they are running late) then I just go to the next parent. Harsh I know but I too have a family I would actually like to go home to and actually get to eat something. Will not be home before nine on either night. I am a parent too so I do see both sides.
Anyway rant over on a more OS note I have started knitting a scarf for my father in law. I'm trying a new knit so that it has a pretty pattern and it's not going to badly. I have told my family it will be two small gifts for the children and no more than a £5 for adults. Friends and my inlaws are having homemade gifts as they will appreciate them. I am getting very excited about Christmas - being in school I love the atmopshere and the infectious happiness of the children.'Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.'
Proud Mummy to two gorgeous miracles.:j0 -
Kitcaboodle I have really square toes and narrow heels too, a shoe nightmare! I want to wear pretty slip on shoes but generally need ones that are covered or at least have straps across the foot or they'll fall off!
I hate even thinking about Christmas, we buy for all of DH's cousins (the joy of being one of the eldest cousins, the littlies are more like nieces and nephews and MiL insists we buy them presents!) and it really does add up. We can't say no really, we don't want to appear mean and technically we can afford it but it means sacrificing some nice things for ourselves. I suppose it's only once a year though and we don't always give them things at birthdays as we don't see them then so it's usually just a card. Still the spending  at least we spend a few days at Christmas with the in-laws and they don't ask for anything towards food or drink at all (and have refused our offers in the past) so we don't have that to worry about, MiL even gives us big tins of chocolates to take home as well.
Anyway I am costing up Christmas and who is getting what and where I can save.
We're having beef stew for tea tonight and I'm really looking forward to it, I've got to do it on the hob as I forgot to take the beef out of the freezer last night so it has been defrosting all day, I would have preferred to slow cooker the stew but never mind...next time!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

long time lurker here! Hello everyone
I'm not sure this is the right place but I enjoy reading this thread and am so proud of my OS cooking achievements that I wanted to share with someone.
Carved pumpkins on Sunday with OH and now I have on the go pumpkin and red lentil soup in the slow cooker and roasted pumpkin seeds and pumpkin lasagne in the oven. I wanted to make pumpkin seeds as they are easy but I didn't want to put the oven on just for them so I'm experimenting with the lasagne. All of it smells lovely so far.Times is 'ard.0
