Lidl had advent calenders for either 89p or 99p yesterday if anyone is looking for one, they had some lovely Christmas chocolates that I stood in front of for ages before dragging myself away!
Well....I take it all back about my Hubby and his floor laying abilities, he's sorted out the problem and all is back on track - so I'm sorry for even doubting him (at least I only had my hissy fit on here and not AT him so I don't have to climb down and apologise to him :rotfl:)Piglet

I daren't help out too much, because if I do we'll all go down. I can't keep us all afloat. SIL is builder and money very erratic and difficult at the moment. I'm trying desperately hard to secure my own position so if it all goes wrong for her family, or indeed DS, there is a roof, heat and food for all.
I don't feel very lovely at the moment. I'm looking long term and being cruel to be kind. Hate seeing them struggling but if I lose my security (don't have that much) I wouldn't be able to help if things did go bad, as they may do.
Jamanda - you are lovely through and through :A , your posts always reflect what a caring and thoughtful person you are :A
You are doing the very best that you possibly can in very difficult circumstances - please don't feel bad about yourself - you are doing a great job for your family!
I can emphasise with you - I'm so relieved and happy that I've got an extra six months to my contract but am continuing to be a frugal as I possibly can be as I know that come January/February next year I'll be needing the money I'm saving now to cover our essential bills. I find it easier to run on a low budget rather than have feast & famine - I worry about coping most of the time as do all our good friends here on this wonderful and supportive thread... when things get tough, I try to remind myself that the things that make life worth living can't be boughtTake care x

The only reasons we aren't struggling so much at the moment is that I found a job (been there two weeks) and still feeling very insecure, and money is rubbish - but it is a wage.
DH found job a few months ago, although he hasn't been out of work because he was doing a long term temp job. Thing is, new job is related to building industry and if that goes down, so does the job, so things are still very unsettling, as they are for lots of us.
I'm really glad you got your contract extended. It is unnerving when you don't know what is happening.
Isn't it odd though, that we have to come on here for people who REALLY understand where we are coming from. Thanks for your lovely comments, although not sure they are warranted I'll leave you with your illusions.:)0 -

Just how stupid do some retailers think parents are?
Girls thick tights (in blue and black) £1.99 a pair, Boys footed Long-johns £5.99 a pair.....Well sorry to ds and bubs but your having girls tights when it gets cold.
Other than that nothing to report0 -
Lauren I think we talked about this earlier in the thread, my boys lived in tights in the winter until they went to school. I'd still make them wear them now if I could get away with it.It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

Reading about the charity shops and shoplifting, there is a charity shop in our town and they had to put up a notice to say shoplifters about be careful and mind your purse. I have heard also of some people stealing from the charity shops. I think it is disgraceful that there are people who would do this, and I feel very annoyed. There are a bunch of lovely ladies in particular who give up their time for nothing and it is a really nice thing to be served by them, as they are so friendly and always have a kind word with you, and a welcome. I always donate to several of the charities in our town and every penny is needed. On the other hand I once helped out in a certain c shop in same town, and enjoyed it until one morning a very nice man brought in a lot of lovely after shave and perfume from his chemist shop, and he wanted to donate them. It was coming up to Christmas. I was in the back of the c shop sorting out the clothes etc. and pricing them, and I saw the manageress take them out into the back where her car was parked and she announced with a wink that that was her Christmas presents all sorted now!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so disgusted I left after my shift never to go back. Heard later she was caught stealing from the shop.Do a little kindness every day.;)0

Hi all, have not been on this site since Monday, it takes some catching up with.
Well all of my plans for a grand clean of the house this week went out of the window. On the bright side I have managed to visit my three sisters plus various neices and nephews.
I did manage to get some cleaning done (including mums carpets) but the had a bad cold for the last few days and have not felt like doing much at all. OS went out of the window on Fri night (as did the meal plan) as I felt so horrible. Sent OH out for a MR S curry for 4, but did not enjoy it due to loss of taste and blocked nose. How come I get ill when have a week off?
Things are back on track today and I am feeling more human again have managed to get some cleaning done and have baked two pies for the freezer and HM soup and pasties for lunch. I am am away with work from Wed till Fri ( on a course) so need to make a cottage pie and bolognaise for the freezer as this will work out a lot cheaper than leaving OH in charge of the meals. OH is supportive of my frugal ways but has not developed the art of bulking out meals (or maybe he's just pretending so that he can get out of the cooking).
Right I off to bake some cakes for lunches next week.
Keep well
Mrs VPI am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

Afternoon everyone...:D
Have a day off from the garage at last, hated bieng unemployed but got used to the lie ins and just doing nothing after pounding the ward floors for years in unearthly hours ( I was a midwife), I had to open the garage at 6am then forgor the damn clocks went back so it was 5am:eek::eek:m must say though we did some brisk business but dont think that a 5am Sunday morning opening is in the offing...
Im finally down to my last few tins in the pantry so am going to do a stock up shopping in the week,Ive been living on cheese, crackers and Montys home made chutnies and pickles onions in the evening as Ive had no oomph to get off my butt and cook a tea, so a tighter waistband and a look at my till receipts (lots for choccie bars and crisps and cans of coke:o:o) has soon diverted my attention back on to the Money Saving OStyle bandwagon, how easily one can be side tracked when you get into habit of buying one chocie bar from work..so sensible packed lunches and soup in a flask from tommorow...cant be seen to be eating all the profits :eek::o
Have been doing a mad clean up and washing clothes routine thingy since I came home and nearly found myself plugging in my tumble drier, old habits die hard so its all on the washing line blowing will bring it in a minute as it looks like its going to get damp if I leave it out any further.
Why does dust come back, its the bain of my life, dust and turn your back and there it is back again..must dig out my wintery boots and woolies Ive resited till now but can feel the old bones feeling the chill.
Must go Montys just bringing in my Sunday dinner, Mash Pots Chicken Stuffing Peas Cauliflour and Carrotts and Gravy mmmmmmmmmm and I believe hes going to wow me with his Rice Pudding,,, hed make some woman a lovley husband,, he say to say hello to you all....just looked int o the kitchen what a mess:eek::eek: he might cook well but he dont half make a right mess and uses all the pots hope his tidying/washing up skills are as good as his cooking:p
Keep well all, and warm wishes to all not feeling well or having a difficult time, hugs to the ones that need it xxxx
