Thank you for everyone's supportive posts earlier - made me cry actually, but the support was lovely, thank you :)

The letter was for an appt for this coming Wednesday to attend a Pathways To Work interview, which my daughter has to attend. It's madness...the whole system is madness. There should be some concession when dealing with people with a mental illness - how can an outsider, untrained in mental illness, decide whether my daughter is fit for work or not?

She can't keep awake or get out of bed a lot of days, and when she is up, she's either on a massive low where she doesn't speak or has a uncontrollable anger where she wants to rip everyone's head off, so how is she supposed to work?

Anyway - it's got nothing to do with OS, and I'm waaay OT, so I'll stop there.

I just really wanted to come on to say thanks x

hippeechiq don't worry about the work interview the one my son went to she was very kind we had to explain a good day and a bad day how he was affected by his illness etc what he can and can't do that kind of thing and what he'd like to do if he could have the support he needed. at a later date we had the dreaded medical assesment i say dreaded as my son hates going place so had a few probs at first as they are compulsary but if your daughter is unable to attend they can arrange for someone to see your daughter at home again it's more to establish what the person can do rather than what they can't takes about an hour then up totwo weeks for a reply my son was put on the support package his 1st apptmt is nov he's ok about it atm but nearer the day i'm not sure how he will be but as he needs the support i'm hoping it will go ok will find out soon enough hope this helps

I am always humbled by the response of people on here, some days I feel very much that I battle through life alone, and then I spend time on here and it really helps me see that we are a community battling lifes up and downs together. Its always struck me how many people have problems with children and certain food stuffs, you'd think that someone somewhere would work out exact;y which of the additives causes the most difficulties and at the very least put a govt health warning on items containing those bits.

DS6 has just started throwing up again, this has gone on for almost two weeks now, he will be very sick for a day followed by upset stomach for a few days then fine for a couple of days then back again to the start, going to take him to see a doctor tomorrow as this really cant continue. He will be devastated tomorrow when he realises he is going to miss the Fireman Sam live show he was given months ago as a reward for being good, its tomorrow afternoon and no way can I take him now.

All I can say is thank God for the extra buckets my dad bought last week!!! :)

Does this apply to contrib based JSA as well? DH was made redundant twice last year. The 2nd time he signed on for 3 months and received contrib based JSA. Got a contract that lasted for 5 months - and was told when he finished that he couldn't sign back on for contrib based JSA within 6 months.. :(

As far as I'm aware it does!

Unless there are circumstances I'm not aware of, I can't see why he would be advised that (unfortunately, people do occasionally get mis-advised as there are so many different things to get to grips with).

If you have enough NI contributions paid then you should get six months worth of contribution based JSA. If you don't then, depending on your savings & financial situation you may get income based JSA. If he'd only had three months worth then he should have still been eligible for another three months - plus maybe more due to the contributions he'll have paid during the 5 months he was working.

If he had left the contract of his own accord or been fired for misconduct then they would probably sanction his benefit for six months (depending on the circumstances) - meaning that he wouldn't get any of his contributions based JSA until then. If he left it six months after his contract finished before claiming then they probably wouldn't care how it ended. I'm wondering if this is where someone got the six months from?

I don't know everything about claiming by a long shot - I don't think anybody does! I am also a little out of date in my knowledge as I'm off on maternity. However, this does sound to me like a situation which could potentially be a case of getting wires crossed.

If I were you I would double check with someone else - possibly with a manager & if you find out that he is eligible to claim, explain that he was misinformed and when this was. If you put a complaint about it in writing and escalate it if appropriate, they may possibly consider backdating his claim. They also need to know if someone is giving out duff info! (Please note, that if you were given the duff info over the phone rather than in the jobcentre, the local jobcentre won't be the ones responding but they can pass on the complaint to the call centre and they can chase if you don't get a response within ten working days of them receiving the complaint).

Dollydaydream, great news about the tenner! I did a storecupboard challenge this time last year ... got lots of encouragment from the OSers so I'm sure if you list what you've got, you'll manage till the cashflow is a bit better. Your tea sounds scrummy by the way.

DH didn't think so when i told him i'd found his tenner!! :rotfl: till i told him it was going to help feed us this week!
    Tea was absolutely delish :D

Hippiechic, I hope it all goes smoothly for your daughter - there is such a lot of misunderstanding about mental illness. At least she has a supportive mother but not an easy job! ()s

Frugal, have a look at the second page of yesterday's (Friday's) OS Daily thread. Post from nanny2die4 (I think) about her new stove - there's a link to pics etc from her post. Looks wonderful - has a little oven above the firebox for casseroles etc and you can boil a kettle on the top plus log store at bottom.

()s to anyone els who's struggling, ill, or under the weather and hope no one's washed away - relentless wind and rain here - and have to go to an outdoor memorial service this afternoon! Will be wearing my wellies! Hope everyone has a good weekend.

I am developing an unhealthy obsession with WOODBURNER websites since I found out my new boiler will be situated upstairs thereby freeing up my fireplace and chimney :D

What can I burn in it? (when i get it that is!) And I do know I can burn wood :D But what else? Can i make newspaper pulped 'logs'? If so, how?

Also, can you use the top of any stove to cook on?

Patience is not a virtue I possess so its gonna be tough waiting (and saving) but I sooooooooo hope it will be worth it :D To know that next winter (doubt it will be this one) I will have a fully working woodburner is filling me with warmth and excitement :D:D:D

all i'll say on the paper logs is we made some 2 (yes TWO) weeks ago they have been "drying out" in a warm room and are STILL sodden so make em in the height of summer ( first year with new toy and i forgot!! :o)

have been very slack this week as am fullof cold/cough so have been dosed up and trying to job hunt, not the easiest of things when your eyes go fuzzy and then your balance goes wrong, i've felt like i'm leaning to the left all week when i know i'm stood upright.

    hugs for all who need

You've developed a list to port, IOIWE. But not in danger of sinking I hope ! Is a gloroius day here after the hellish night we had, we thought the chimney was going to go up for sure this time. Fire was roaring like a furnace and we couldnt do a thing about it. (Because the RV always fillt far too full of coal - think his last life was a stoker on the Titanic.) Got his cousin coming today, shes very pernicketty (must run in the family !) and very fussy and she will go on and ON and I am already knackered cos I have cleaned the entire bl00dy house ..

Popped by to support a local fund raising jumble sale this morning and there was a long queue of people waiting outside for the doors to open. Can't figure out whether these are genuinely hard-up people looking for cheap things out of necessity or people looking for bargains to sell at a higher price on Ebay nad make some profit. I've never done the Ebay selling thing and wonder whether there's actually much profit in it by the time people have costed in their time and the hassle of having to wrap things up and take them to the post office.

I think that ebaying of jumble sale, car boot and charity shop finds is pretty common round here - there is a lot of unemployment and so time spent mooching round picking up a few bits and bobs up to resell is a way of stretching your income that bit further. Several of the charity shops are very savvy and sell stuff on ebay too.

Personally I don't have a problem with it - when DH was unemployed, I bought a few scruffy old style leather satchels for 50p-£1 each from our local charity shop and resold them for £10 each on ebay.

What I object to is the individuals who are too greedy and pinch stuff out the clothing banks and from bags left outside the charity shops...and from the charity shops themselves. DD2 has just had a few weeks helping out at the local cancer hospice shop ...and she was warned to be on the lookout for shoplifters - how low can you get to do that? ...and also I find it unacceptable that some people who try and browbeat the charity shop staff into letting them have stuff cheaper than the ticket price

I am a buyer not a donater from charity shops as I wear my clothes until they are past being presentable, they get worn then for painting, doing the garden, mucking out etc and when they are more holey than godly :rotfl: they get recycled into cleaning rags, pet beds. :)

I used to help out at a charity shop & we used to get shoplifters & I know that they still get them. We are not in a poor area by any means & you wouldn't think that anyone would stoop so low as to steal from a charity shop.
One afternoon when I was there we were very busy & there were three of us in the shop serving but none of us noticed someone remove an 18" statue from a top shelf & make off with it. One Christmas we had someone steal two 'new goods' perfume bottles on two separate occasions. The first we knew of it was when we found the packaging from one of them which had been removed & stuffed under a clothes rack.

On an OS note I got some whoopsied fresh fruit in Mr T's last night including 2 packs of rhubarb for 30p each instead of £2.99. Made a lovely crumble with it. Had some for tea with some vanilla icecream. Lovely!
