  • TudorRose - the shoplifting thing sounds really bad - in most of the charity shops, stuff is cheap anyhow but to steal stuff is the lowest of the low.

Try a spoonful of tracle with your rhibarb instaed of sugar if you do it again - it really neutralises the acidity and gives a really de luxe taste :p

Sat in front of the fire nursing my cold with a glass of hm sloe gin while hm fish pie cooks in the oven - just waiting for the cake to cool a bit more so I can fill and ice it for afters ;);)

I used to help out at a charity shop & we used to get shoplifters & I know that they still get them. We are not in a poor area by any means & you wouldn't think that anyone would stoop so low as to steal from a charity shop.

Another thing that's always happening in charity shops is pickpocketing. I have been in a few times and some poor old soul has had her purse pinched.

It makes my blood boil that people can target the old and vulnerable. Sick!

I know what you mean about household appliances breaking...in my house they tend to breakdown around Christmas time...it's as though they wait all year just to conk out at Christmas..... :(

Hope it turns out not to be too expensive. Could you try on Freegle or in your local classifieds advertisements?

    Hello Everyone

Have any of you bought the Ambrosia Dairy Creamed Rice dated Novemeber 2009 from Big Brand Foods, be wary of it, it was absolutley disgusting, the creamy milky bit when heated seperated and just turned to watery white tasteless mush.....

Im not impressed and didnt like the thought of having to bin 6 cans of the above but I did and will be contacting them first thing in the morning, I had a few friends who I told of the site and a couple have complained and to be 100% fair Big Brand Foods have credited them with the cost of the Ambrosia Rice...I really was looking forward to a big bowl of creamy rice and a big dollop of homemade strawberry jam care of Montys pantry.

Is this buying of slightly out of date food a good money saving thing??? these were nearly a year out of date ....am going to make my own rice pud tommorow .

I think fresh and cooking from scratch is my motto.....Im not so sure I feel comfy with this kind of bargain...specially as I had plans to be keeping them for a few months in my pantry and use them up over time...

    Any viewpoints on this ???

Well thought Id pop in and say morning.

I have been up since what I thought was 5am with Miss Holly May refusing to sleep - I think she overslept yesterday.

Although I forgot about the clocks - so I have in fact been up since 4am!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: Ben woke up at 5am - or what his clock read as 6am so we are all here. To add insult to injury Holly fell asleep at 4.30 and has only just woken up again

Mummy will be going back to bed once daddy gets up me thinks.

Shamed - still need to wash Ben's school uniform ready for tomorrow! Have decided to that if Owen wants go up his mothers then he can take kiddie winks and give me some peace and quiet! to either a) sleep b) get housework done c) have a nice soak in the shower.

Oh its going to be a long day..........
    Time to find me again

    I've been Money Tipped!
Argggg! I forgot the clocks went back! Thank you Sammy K! If I hadn't of read this I would have turned up an hour too early to help in the creche! Will now go have a leisurely breakfast in bed instead.

Annie56 - I normally order from approved foods and have had no trouble with anything they sent, all usable and still have some tins way past their bb date. I think it is trial and error. Only half my Big brands order turned up so I can only say that the baked beans are good. Hopefully the baking products will prove to be as well! (Oh little pun there!:)) Perhaps milky products are best avoided? I too prefer to cook from scratch but keep the tins in for my low energy days! Feel bad because I think it may have been me that mentioned I was ordering from Big Brands in the first place:o:(

Still incredibly pleased with my front door curtain (hall is so darned cosy I sat and had my morning cuppa there) and am now off to read the preparing for winter thread to see what else I can get done!

  • I got some of the muffin mixes and pizza and scone mixes - I've used the muffin mix - very good, but a bit of a faff you need to leave them to rest for 15 mins before baking, which annoyed me :o the scone mix I used in mt catering days and the quality seems the same, even though it's dated for October. All in all, I think they's been really good value, and much cheaper to make the items than buying the individual ingredients as I usually do, I am trying to cut the GC spends to the bare bones as I think I will be on half pay from next month if I don't get back to work soon, and every little helps.

What a struggle it is to get flannel sheets and duvet covers washed, dried and back on the bed in one day. Washed early yesterday and finished off on the first floor verandahs in the sun. I am so reluctant to get spare sets as I did the household sums and have to rein in spending now. We moved house 4 months ago and had lots of big spends and another last week too when I ordered non slip treads for the outdoor wooden steps, after falling and badly bruising my derriere and back. It`s a good reality check to see the future ins and outs on m/s money. I always input data for 2-3 months ahead.

I have a terrible sore throat, now an ulcer after 9 days of coping so today am going all out to get my body to cure it. Am going on liquids and pappy food for at least 3 days, taking garlic and vit c. and extracting juice from veg via my trusty old green life juicer.

I partly blame myself as have been working too hard, moving ourselves, getting the new allotment ready etc. Then ordering from AF ( they are great and no blame to them at all) and seeing all the cheap cakes, chocs and biscuits, I ordered loads so we have been having sugary treats every day which is not really our scene. So I think candida has struck, as seen by my white tongue and my yukky feeling. All sugars and wheats are now out and probiotics are in. Watch this space as I know my regime will work.

re sheets: dh and I now sleep under single duvets and on joined up single beds and sleep is so much better
  • Morning all, I'm still waiting to hear what my work situation is, I've been promised a response for five weeks and I still don't have one so it's all getting a bit tedious.

Hubby is laying the engineered wood flooring in the extension this weekend, he's now realised that he's got it wrong and potentially has cut too many planks so we might now be short on flooring  I know he hasn't done it on purpose, but he didn't read the bloody instructions and think about it before he started and we can't afford to buy any more flooring if he's cocked it up  The extension is a granny annexe so that we can move out of the main house into it and finally get some privacy back (Dad was supposed to be moving into it but we are instead - it's a long story!).

Feeling rough today as well, ate and drank too much that didn't agree with me yesterday. Building up strength to go and see what DH is doing now about the blooming floor....
