howdy peeps and shiny new threadness
well another one job hunting at the momentand it is a pain but hey ho, might have sthg on the horizon which being far from ideal pays a heckof a lot more than i've been on for last couple of jobs so would be worth putting up with for at least a few months.
on a wintery note DH and i are making paper logs tomorrow using a gadget i got at the garden centre, not only will we have a use for all the newspapers (not paid for by us i add) but i also got a load of free logs from a tree surgeon so we are going to chop them into usable pieces and have a cosy winter by the fire
i seem to have lost my mse-ness for a while but i intend to grab it and drag it back

I have a good meal that I want to share with you, it is called bigos or hunters stew and it costs very little to make, is nutritious and very tasty with a hunk of bread and/or potatoes. I made it today and it will do 4 meals for two and they longer it stands the better it tastes
a large jar of sauerkraut (morrisons do one)
a whole cabbage
smoked sausage (I used 1/3 of a kabanos ring from costco) you can use mattesons smoked sausage from the supermarket fridge section
a large carrot
an onion
some mushrooms (optional)
peppercorns
a couple of bayleaves
a dash of sherry
A big pan or casserole with a good lid. I used a large pressure cooker but on very low
rinse the sauerkraut in cold water a couple of times and leave to drain. Chop the carrot. Chop and saute the onion. Coarsely shred the cabbage. Cut the meat into inch chunks and you can add any pork if you need more meat
Add everything to the sauteed onions. Lid on tight and simmer slow for 2-3 hours. Don`t add extra liquid or peep
Dare to be different!! my children loved this and I grew up on it0 -

Hi all on this lovely new thread.
For low meat but tasty meals how about trying a great big beef stew, Get the cheapest cut you can and stew in yourr biggest trat in the oven for ages with as many root veg and onions as you can pack in, cover with stock and a tin of toms, a good glug of wine if the budget allows and some herbs and seasoning. This will take 2 or 3 hours at least but when done you should be able to feed everyone (including any strays that turn up!) with lots of left overs. With the left overs you can make pie and or pasties, add more stock and stretch to make soupy stew for those who are soup fans, add exta tinned toms and cook down a bit more for a pasta sauce, etc etc.
I can make £3 or so of beef feed us (2 very big appetites and our DD 18 months and eats more than her 11 year old cousin!) for a good 3 or 4 meals and this could be stretched further and probably will be before the winter is out!0 -
Hi Hippeechiq
Can I suggest that you try weezels no need to knead bread. I made it for the first time last weekend and I can not believe how easy and cheap it was to make. I have made bread the traditonal way (lots of kneading) but it was always quite heavy/dense. This bread was nice and light. The only adjustment I will make next time will be to make it into 3 not 4 loaves. I do not know how to find weezels thread but if you need me to I will post the recipe on here for you.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.
