Greenbee, I can only suggest that you 'pretend in your head' that you're a guest speaker as opposed to being the main speaker...that way 'in your head' you'll think you only have a set piece to do and won't get in a tizzle about it.

Failing that, inhale helium, that'll put a great spin on any dry subject....when you speak like Minnie Mouse...:rotfl:

    Well done MG.

Your message just prior to the launch of your home page has really touched a nerve with me this evening. My life is in a state of flux - I'm feeling extremely vulnerable, frightened and sad. Yet your post speaks of hope and courage and I must hold on for that. So, thank you for the reminder :D

In the meantime, your website looks good. I would like to make some comments and hope these are taken in good spirit as they are sent in good faith:
    1. There's no request for a booking fee and no indication when payment is due, how payment is to be paid and the security of any payments made (e.g., cancellation due to ill-health etc)
    2. Do you know the venue for the talks? Can you add these to the web page. Will the first year of talks be aimed at universities or businesses? If you need help with venues ask the Matrix. I can help with the city where I live (I've a list of contacts at various venues over the entire city). You've got my details or send a PM.
    3. How long are the days (4, 5, 6 hours?)
    4. Are refreshments included?
    5. I like simplicity generally, as there's no room for confusion and would certainly not recommend graphics or other nonsense on your website, but I feel it's missing some "passion" that's been talked about recently. I don't know how to change that so I apologise for not making a constructive criticism, but I hope that the comment creates some discussion. From first sight I just think there are a lot of words [dull] and the formating of words in the centre doesn't make it that easy to read. This is my opinion only and I await flaming :o

PS: Student guide already promoted at my OU tutorial group last weekend and on the course website. Hope you've had some sales from it.

Memory Girl, when you have time, perhaps you can form a 'feedback' part to your page...it's the bit I always head to on websites...'customer feedback'....anyways, a book 'feedback' and a conference/tour feedback section.

    Just a suggestion hun. xx

Either the universe has a sense of humour or I have just been given a lesson in thinking through the consequences of your actions

I posted the link on FB and logged on this morning to find a message from someone I did an OU course with assuming I was going and suggesting meeting up.

  • Hi MG and all other matrix-ers

soooo glad things are going so well so many of us! MG, well done on getting the webpage up and running - you've done amazingly well..

Again like Hiphouse, I hhave a few "constructive" comments. these are just my thoughts from a more objective view - assuming I am a first time visitor who knows nothing of your personal circumstances and how you got to where you are now...
    • definately need people to pay upfront. Not a percentage but the full amount - or at least half with no refunds for any cancellations. need to add the timing of the day 10-4 and will need to add venues as you book them - esp for the coming ones
    • The layout, centering etc could look a lot better and more professional - at the moment there is a lot of plain white background & just text....maybe photograph a few pages from the book or any photos of groups in a learning setting?? It just lacks something colourful and eyecatching Even putting the dates in a table or some boxes around some of the text would make a difference
    • Look at adding pages - e.g. book a course now page, customer testimonials/feedback page, your contact information page, to break down the information
    • Make your logo a bit bigger at the top and add in HIGHER education as you are targetting uni students as well. Have a bit of a Bio about your skills and experience - will support the the world master arbiter title
    • small typo when you do to pay - cerdit instead of credit
Please remember these are just my suggestions (been on a course this week about constructive criticism - can u tell??) I have been honest and only made comments that I think will enhance and highlight the amazing work you have already done.

I am in Birmingham so happy to help you however I can at any time xx

  • KITS FOR KIDS

Well done everyone for all the brilliant collecting. have a colleague at work who plays in a local league so will ask him to ask around for any old kits.

Anyone heard about the new film AFRICA UNITIED?? opens next friday and its a film about a group of kid from Rwanda who set off to see the world cup in SA - fits in with us perfectly.

Just wondering how we could use this film and the publicity around it to highlight kits for kids???? They have a FB page so maybe we could see about getting a linky - any good FBers out there??
Collection boxes at cinemas for old kits?

Think its excellent timing and brilliant publicity for us if we can link up witht them in any way....
