And some of its because the teaching is rubbish.:D

I went on a weeks course in 1995  cost my company thousands to send 4 of us. The ONLY thing any of us could remember a week or two later and that I still can remember is something about how standard typefaces came to be used as a result of the Great Fire of Chicago that was started by Mrs O'leary's cow :rotfl:I can't even remember which course it was.

Well at least you remembered something - I hope the lunch was worth it?

I should remember I'm preaching to the choir here:D. You guys get what I'm trying to do is add massive value, but sometimes is helps to - how does my Dad put it?? Oh Yes!!!

"Open my mouth and let my belly rumble":rotfl::rotfl:

If I could make sure that you and your kids get huge value from every single penny spend on education from here on in - well thats a massive "Yeeeehaaaaa!!!!" for 2011.

Especially now that Student Fees are going up fro FE - as hardened DFW's we are going to watch as much benefit for our bucks as possible.

Yes - I've done this with SEN kids. If you think about your sense of smell is the strongest memory trigger that we have.

I bet you have all had occasions to get a whiff of something and it has barrelled you right back into a poweful memory..... your Grandmas perfume? The smell of carbolic soap? Your first loves aftershave (Cacherel for men and it still makes me go weak at the knees:D), the smell of my aunties face powder, the first grass cut in spring, the smell of my baaaaaaabbbbbiessss!!!!!!

So using a specific scent to associate with learning a specific subject - and then using that scent as a memeory trigger in an exam situation really does work. It's situational memory.

Its the same principle with teenagers who revise with lots of music on the go - and then feel really uncomfortable and disorientated in the oppresive silence of an exam room. They have programed their brains to learn and remember with music - and when music is taken away - well it hard!!!

And also why - we have our best ideas when slightly tipsy and can't remember them when we are stone cold sober :rotfl::rotfl:

Still if you know this stuff you can make informed choices can't you?

Maybe you should think about a collaboration with 'Memory Oils' !

  • Hello!

Just had a couple of random thoughts on Kids For Kids - first off, how about trying DHL for assistance with getting the shirts moved across to SA? They are a massive company these days, plus they have people running about all over the country - if you could get them on board they might even be willing to offer local depots as collection points?
Second - someone mentioned Bob Geldof's name earlier on - does anyone have any contacts (or contacts of contacts of contacts!) who might be able to get this whole thing in front of him? He's incredibly charity minded as witness his history, and something like this just *might* grab his attention, specifically as was said earlier in that he understands about tall orders in tight timeframes. Getting someone like him involved would be a great publicity boost.
Finally - the logo is fantastic, but at the moment doesn't say what it relates to? :o

I cant believe how much energy is being generated off this thread - I swear my laptop should be absorbing it and feeding it back to the National Grid! :D

As a qualified aromatherapist I can testify to this. I always ask a person first what smells that they do not like or if any trigger happy memories and I try to incorporate the happy memories into the massage if it fits. Once I had a lady who became hysterical, crying and shaking. Turned out that the smell of geranium brought back some awful memory that she hadnt even realised that she had. Sense of smell is a powerful thing!

:rotfl:Don't worry, you've probably done more to help than you realise. Driving around collecting things is far easier than asking for things. You've done the hard part.
