Been talking to the HT of one of the local schools and he is saying that I would be better off moving continent to find aplace for DS1 - as they would eat him alive at his school. So I am online looking at schools in USA, Italy and India - NOt really what I was planning to do with a toddler in tow - LOL.
I realise that most Scots think of England as a foreign country, but it may be a little bit easier than the US...

Apparently there is one in Essex (a state one at that) but the website is currently offline.

It might also be worth considering that some of the ones that go on until 6 or 7 may welcome enquiries from parents who have experience of primary education in the Montessori system as they may want to extend it. This article might come in handy...

Of course, there's always Tokyo :p

Hope this gives you a few more ideas... I know your family and friends are where you currently live, but your job is location independent - although it may be easier to get the business going in the UK initially, as that's where your contacts are.

MG, you have moved mountains over the past few months, achieved so much. Inspired a whole bunch of people to better their lives, achieve their potential, you've found ways to do so many things and their are a whole trail of people (myself included) that would do anything that they could to help.

It is incredibly hard though to fight beauroracy (in this case this HT). I know what its like though to wnt the best for my children and so many times i have been :wall::wall::wall:simply because I didnt know what to do for the best. Or because I could'nt give them what they wanted. I set goals that I could'nt score and a lot of the time it felt like everything was against me. The pain is double because you are feeling fr yourself and on behalf of your children.
Even if I did manage to achieve anything, within a day or 2 there was another setback and it felt like for every step forward I was taking 5 back.
The Universe will give you the answer, I'm not saying it will necessarily be the answer that you want. Just ask.
Be kind to your self and say the 'serenity prayer' (it works for me even if I dont agree with it.
This is my Mantra, it works for me when something is outof my control

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let not this blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams; it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful.

Thanks - but beng England their transition year is at 11 not 12 as it is here, and thats the year that' missing IYSWM.

The irony is that if I could get him through to 12 using the Montessori curriculum I would be very confident having him travel and learn alongside me until he was 15 or so. Its this sticky year I need to fill.

OCCAMS RAZOR!!!!!!!!!!

All things being equal - the simplest solution is usually the best - right?

So here I have a boy who wants to learn, an existing school stuffed full of all the resources - and a will to do something creative for a year. Even got space inthe house that could be used as a Montessor environment.

All I need is a teacher to teach him 5 days a week for 8 months.

Simplest solution - find a teacher to come to Scotland for 8 months.

Don't know how, or any of the details .................. but its got to be simpler than moving my kids to India for a year? Right?

Would Steiner suit him? Even if not ideal, it may be better than mainstream... or do you know anyone who could tutor him privately if you home schooled?

I see you reached the same conclusion... if you did this, could you share the teacher with the other child (or any of the others who have left because of HTH?) - a bit like a nanny share I guess :p

My grandparents did this at one point - they employed a governess to run a school for about a dozen local children to prepare them for prep school rather than send them to the village school (back in the 40s) in a rurally deprived area. From what my dad remembers, the school was in the old hayloft above the stables, and everyone who attended over the 5 years or so that it ran has very happy memories of it!

Would it be worth contacting the other Fife school to see if they would be interested in running your school as well? Explain the problem is with HTH and not lack of local demand.
Or if they don't want to go all the way they may be prepared to lend teachers if necessary.
